Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

AIM: To obtained a midsurface of of given component and create a required 1D elements on it.

PROCEDURE:

  • First we will import the .IGS file in the hyper mesh.
  • The component is shown below:

  • Now first we will do the dimensioning to the model.
  • GEOM>DIMENSIONING

  • Now we need to extract the midsurface from it.
  • For that go to the GEOM>MIDSURFACE
  • After that select the surface and then click on extract,

  • Now for the second component we will use the different method for that go to the GEOM>MIDSURFACE>EXTRACTION OPTION>OFFSET+PLANES

  • As you can here the the fillet part is slightly different in both parts.
  • The midsurface part is shown below:

  • Now to create a 1D element we required meshing on the plates.
  • For that go to GEOM>AUTOMESH and select the surface for meshing and then select MESH
  • Before meshing we will create a washer on the hole for that go to the GEOM>QUICKEDIT>WAHSER SPLIT

  • Now meshing.

  • Now we will create the 1D element with the help of given dimension.
  • For that go to 1D>RIGIDS for RBE2 elements.

a. Rod element:- Translational DOF should be Constrained with RBE2 link

Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

dimension b=10 mm

Thickness t= 0.75 mm

  • So the rigid is form with TRANSLATION DOF constrained.
  • Now t create a ROD go to 1D>HYPERBEAM and select THINWALLED assign the property given above.

  • Now go to 1D>RODS and select the center nodes for the RIGID ELEMENTS

  • Now to assign the property to the created rod first create a property with CARD IMAGE: ROD and BEAM SECTION as the ROD we created using HyperBeam

  • And then assign this property to the the COMPONENT

  • Now next is Beam element

b. Beam element:- All DOF should be constrained with RBE3 link

Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

Dimension b= 10 mm

Dimension c= 8.5 mm

Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

Thickness t2= .6 mm

Thickness t3= .6 mm

  • For RBE3 link go to 1D>RBE3
  • Now for beam element go to 1D>BARS and select element type as CBEAM

  • Now create a HyperBeam With a HyperMesh>I section

  • Now assign the property to BEAM for I section.

  • Now next is BAR ELEMENT

c. Bar element:- Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

Cross-section: X section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

  • Now for bar element go to 1D>BARS and select element type as CBAR

  • Now creating X section for th beam. For that go to HyperBeam. for this time go to OPTISTRUCT>CROSS

  • Now assign the property to BAR for X section.

  • Now we have to apply a MASS On RBE2 link.
  • For that go to the GEOM>MASSES

  • Now we have to Join the two components with Spring elements
  • For that first we will create a two rigids at end of the component and then join them with the help of spring
  • For spring element go to 1D>SPRINGS

  • Now to see the all the created elements go to 1D detailed element Representation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Able to construct the RBE2 and RBE3 elements.
  • Able to apply properties to the component.
  • Able to create diffrent types of Cross-Section with the help of HyperBeam.

CONCLUSION:

  • All the 1D elements are created.
  • Properties are assigned to the 1D elements.
  • Spring are used to join the two components.
