Project 1 - 2D meshing on the instrumental Panel

AIM: To perform the midsurfacing and meshing of the given IP substrate with the help of given quality criteria.

Procedure:

  • IP substrate is part of a car.
  • We have to first perform the geometry cleanup to see whether there are any errors and after the errors are fixed we will go for the midsurfacing. Checks>Geometry
  • So the IP substrate is shown below:

  • Now the checkup is done and all the error are fixed. Most error are fixed with the auto fix reaming are fixed by making some changes is the component.

  • Now the geometry of the component is good. Now we will take the measurement for the midsurfacing. This componant has a complex design. So various parts have various thickness. As shown below:

  • Now this is complex design we have to take midsurface of different parts individually.
  • We have to choose the parts as per the same thickness and perform the midsurfacing.
  • First we will select the outer part try to select the part where there are less number of features, so we will perform the FACES>OFFSET in Toppo module as shown:

  • So the final midsurfacing will look like this. After the midsurfacing is done assign the new PID to that and thickness too so its easy to to meshing seperately.:

  • Now there are other part like dog house and ribs we will do the midsurfacing for that too. As doghouse doesnt have any thickness so it should be captured as Cross-Pattern.
Mid surfacing of Ribs and Dog house are done seperately As shown below:

RIBS:

DOG HOUSE:

  • For dog house first created the curve on the cylinder like structure using CURVES>CONS2CURV. As shown:

  • After creating the curve use the FACES>NEW>COONS/FITTED according to requirement to create the faces as shwon:

  • Now the face are created and they need intersect so the cons will be form on the surface for that use FACES>INTERSECT and select the two faces which have get intersected.
  • After performing the operation the tripple cons will be formed on the surface,As shown:

  • Now All the midsurfacing and connection is done we will assign the seperate PID according to thicness, for that FACES>SET PID and assign the PID to RIBS , DOGHOUSE and OUTERSURFACE as shown:

  • Now next is meshing for that we have to first apply the lenght and assign the quality criteria and meshing parameter as per the requrirenmnet
  • The quality criteria and the mesh parameter is given from the utilities section and the length is given by the mesh module PARAMETERS>LENGTH>PARAMETER as shown:

Length:

Quality Criteria:

Meshing Parameters:

  • So now the everything is done we will go for the meshing, for meshing we can use many methods like spot meshing , best meshing or batch meshing. But the meshing has to be proper.
  • Now the we will use here spot meshing for a good mesh flow for that we will go for MESH GENERATION>SPOT in MESH module.
  • We will do meshing for each PID seperetely as shown:

  • Now for meshing I use spot meshing the and the result is shown below. So there were OFF elements which are removed me the help of SHELL MESH> RECONSTRUCT and after removing the OFF elements the mesh is smoothen with the help of SHELL MESH>SMOOTH.
  • There are some off element which are not elimiminated because of the small region formed by tripple cons.:

LEARNING OUTCOME:

  • Use of extend and intersect operation
  • Able to perform better mesh flow
  • Able to do the midsurfacing of the Dog house.

CONCLUSION:

The midsurfacing and the meshing is performed successfully. The quality criteria is checked and meshing is done accordingly. There are some OFF elements because of the tripple cons and in some small area.
