Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

Objective:- For the given models, check for the geometrical errors and delete surfaces which are unwanted for Surface wrap as shown in the videos. After clearing geometry, Merge all 3 models and perform surface wrap.
Target length for Wrap = 3 mm

Procedure:-

Load all the three models in ANSA

ENGINE

TRANSMISSION

GEAR BOX

Deleting all the unwanted surfaces without damaging the outer shape of the geometries.

Resolving all the outer single cons as it would affect surface wrapping.

Filling the holes by creating new surfaces wherever required.

After Topo cleanup of the entire geometry, now we will merge the three geometries. To do this go to Files -> Merge and select the models to be merged.

The merged model will look as shown below

To proceed further we need to first delete the PID’s of the deleted components. To perform this we need to click on ‘Compress’ command and then click ok

After this the overall PID’s will reduce to a very low value as shown below. In this case i.e 98

To do Surface Wrapping, under MESH option click on

Elements`->` Wrap `->` Constant Wrap

Now double click on Empty and a dialogue box will open.

Again Double click on Parameters and provide the name as well as the target length and click ok.

After this click on ‘Contents’ just beside the ‘Parameters’ option and then select the entire PID’s which are on the left side and click on the green arrow to shift all of them towards the right side and then click ok.

After performing the above operation click on Run to Perform Surface Wrapping of the entire model.

After sometime the Surface Wrap will be done and the finished model will look as shown below.

Conclusion:-

• Effective Surface Wrapping was run successfully on the given geometry for a given mesh length of 3mm
• Surface wrap is effective for outside flow simulations where the volume between the body and the wind tunnel is required for flow over the body simulations.
