- Aim: Create the Coin Holder Plastic component through the given Class-A surface.
- Objective:
- To form the tooling axis for the given component.
- To form class B & C surfaces and form a solid from the surface.
- To capture class A more properly and to capture the tooling axis.
- Method:
- Tooling axis is the axis is created by extracting a surface from class A.
The image is showing a class A surface given in the challenge. Our aim is to capture class B&C surface. |
First, the most basic step is to extract the walls which provide the base and are easy to capture. Untrim them and make them intersect each other to trim them later. |
All the walls are extrapolated and trimmed to capture the surface. Here it is also necessary to offset them to the distance equal to the thickness of the component. |
After all the surfaces are trimmed, it is required to provide the fillets. The fillet radius is not the same as it is in class A, here while providing the fillet the thickness has to be added to the fillet. |
The base features are also supposed to capture and trimmed properly. |
The top wall is extracted at once and needs to untrim and extrapolate. |
Once the side wall, base and top wall is extrapolated it is required to trim them and form as a single part. |
The front surface has to be extracted but in parts and due to complexity CATIA is not able to extrapolate it at once and has to be done in parts. Extracting them 1 by 1 and untrimming is performed to trim it with bottom walls. |

Once the top wall is created, it is trimmed with the adjacent walls. |
To capture the hole, another surface has to be extracted and the proper border has to be taken and a sweep is performed. The sweep is needed in a direction perpendicular to the border. |
Once the hole is captured using extract, it is then trimmed with the parent body and after selecting the proper surfaces the hole is created and the entire body forms as a single body. |
To form the class C surface, the sweep has to be done in a perpendicular direction and equal to the thickness of the part. |

Once the entire surface is captured, it is necessary to check for all the border and then in the part design, closed body is formed. |
After forming a closed body the solid will appear as shown above. |
Draft analysis has been performed, as there is a number of inclined walls it is showing feasibility as per that. |
- Learning outcome:
- To take the tooling axis.
- Form the class B & C surfaces, using extract, untrim, extrapolate and more commands.
- To capture class C in a direction perpendicular to the tooling axis.
- Perform draft analysis.

Benchmarking
2. Prepare a report explaining what is benchmarking. Benchmarking involved a comparison between similar products on some dimensions of performance. It can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provide the basis of consumer tests and review. These look at products…
