Fender Design Challenge

- Aim: To design automobile fender using given surface along with proper emboss.

- Method:

- Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well. Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other roads spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

- Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

- There are two types of number, as shown above, however, half bumper type is more commonly used as it results in material saving and results in less overall weight and improves the efficiency of the vehicle.

- Construction:

- While designing the fender the most important factor to be considered is pedestrian safety. It is necessary to make sure that whatever the mud, stones chipping off from the wheel should not harm the pedestrian and this is the most important factor which is considered while designing the fender.

Master section:

Rules to be undertaken while designing the main connection.

- Following are the steps need to be followed in order to design the fender:

As per the requirement and the distance required points need to be created where curves can be drawn to provide edges for flanges.
After creating the flange curves, it is required to sweep or extrude them and perform split operations.
As per the master section, the flange needs to be provided with proper dimension and measures.
At some places, it is not possible to perform sweep operation and at such places extrude can be done and then trim operation need to be performed.

 - As per the requirement all the embossing has been created that to considering the design parameters and master section.
