Automobile Suspension System meshing and connections -Aim: Understanding the different parts of a suspension system, performing the meshing(shell mesh and solid mesh) and doing the necessary connections. -Objectives: - Basic understanding of the suspension system and its components. - Performing the geometry check and extracting the mid surface as per requirement. - Performing the 2D mesh and solid mesh as well. - Doing the necessary connections which represent bolt and nut, and 2 node RBE connections. - Body of Content: 3.1 Geometry check: - Geometry check is the first step of any meshing operation. - It consists of removing all the unnecessary faces, cons, filling the cracks and removing unnecessary triple cons. - Following are some image, which shows what are the errors in the CAD, which are to be removed.
- 3.2 Meshing: - This particular model consists of both the types of mesh solid mesh for the components whose thickness is greater than 5mm and shell mesh for the components whose thickness is less than 5mm. - As per the requirement, the solid mesh and shell mesh is given. - Components like Tire and Rim and have different tetra mesh parameters and then are given by the instructor. Other components are having different solid mesh parameters. - While meshing a solid component Tetra collapse is the most important criteria to be considered. In the meshing process number of components faced the error of tetra collapse and those were removed. Images of those errors are given below. - Tetrahedral is a four noded solid element which can be generated through tria element by creating a volume and also through the existing volume of geometry. These elements are used where the geometry has high thickness and complexity.
- In actual conditions, spring is not formed as a solid but it is formed as a Cbar. And it is then connected to the corresponding parts. 3.2.7 Spring formed as a Cbar. While assigning the property radius has to be given and ANSA calculates the area correspondingly.
- 3.3 Problems faced during meshing:
- 3.4 Connections: - As there are several mating parts, proper connections are to be given. Here two type of connection is used. 1st is s 2node RBE and a Cluster connection where there is a bolt and nut connection. - To represent a bolt and nut. a master many node connections are used, where the centre node is a master node and outer nodes are slave nodes. - To represent the stem of the bolt a 2 node RBE is used.
- Complete model:
- 4. Learning outcome: - Understanding the suspension system and various parts - Implementation of solid and shell mesh as per requirement, depending upon the thickness. - Types of connections are their implementation. - Representation of bolt & nut connection.
-5. Conclusion: - While meshing solid components, tetra collapse is the most important quality criteria to be considered. - While meshing shell mesh, several parameters like skewness, warping, min & max length, trai percent, jacobian are to be considered. - Connections are depended upon the requirement. At some places, the RBE cluster needs to use, whereas at other surfaces 2 node RBE needs to be used.

Benchmarking
2. Prepare a report explaining what is benchmarking. Benchmarking involved a comparison between similar products on some dimensions of performance. It can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provide the basis of consumer tests and review. These look at products…
