objective:For this challenge, you will have to simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. You will need to use 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet and then compare the results of the 3 cases.
case1:Using the material aluminium alloy non linear as the material for the bucket.
1.Edit the engineering data sources and then add the material aluminium alloy non linear, stainless steel non linear, magnesium alloy non linear and tantalum material to the library.
2.Import the geometry in to the space claim and then into the mechanical then assign the material aluminium alloy nonlinear to the bucket and the tantalum alloy to the bullet.
3.Delete the connections or the contacts and then mesh the bucket with the edge sizing on the both sides and use the mesh size of 6mm and then mesh the both bucket and bullet.
Fig shows the meshing of the bucket and the bullet
4.In the analysis setting set the end time as the 0.01sec and then set the energy error as the 5 with highest and then make the fixed support to the bottom of the bucket and the velocity to the bullet in the x direction is of -1.39e-05mm/sec and remaining y and z axis as the zero.
5.Insert the fixed support to the bottom of the bucket and the velocity of the bullet in the x direction of -1.39e+05mm/sec .
Fig shows the velocity and the fixed support for the bucket and the bullet.
6.Add the total deformation and the equivalent stress and then click on the solve and evaluate the results.
Fig shows the total deformation of the min of 0mm and max of 1390mm for using the aluminium as material for the bucket.
Fig shows the equivalent stress of min of 0mpa and max of 1236.3mpa.
case2
using the material magnesium alloy nonlinear for the bucket.
Fig shows the total deformation of min of 0mm and max of 695mm for the magnesium alloy non linear.
Fig shows the equivalent stress of min of 0mpa and max of 2283.6mpa.
case3
using the material stainless steel non linear for the bucket.
Fig shows the total deformation of the min of 0mm and max of 695mm.
Fig shows the equivalent stress of min of 0mpa and max of 5941.3mpa.
Results and comparision
cases | Types | Total deformation(mm) | Equivalent stress (mpa) |
case1 | Using the material aluminium alloy non linear as the material for the bucket. | Max:1390 | Max:1236.3 |
case2 | using the material magnesium alloy nonlinear for the bucket. | Max:695 | Max:2283.6 |
case3 | using the material stainless steel non linear for the bucket. | Max:695 | Max:5941.3 |
Results
In this challenge learnt about the how the non linear material will effect when the impact of the bullet on the bucket and how the total deformation ,equivalent stress will effect the given bucket and compare of the results of 3 cases.
Note
In this challenge clear of the generated data in the solution and results due to large size.
