Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate
objective:For this challenge use the structural steel for the shere and non linear structural steel for the plate and then perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate.
procedure:
1.In the enginerring data add the material as structural steel non linear to the libraray and import the geometry into the space claim.
2.Edit the geometry in the mechanical and rename the components as the sphere and the plate and then assign the nonlinear structural to the steel.
3.Define the contacts between the sphere and the plate of frictional contact of 0.74 as define from the royal mech tribology table.

Fig shows the contact of the sphere to plate.
4.Define the symmetry section for the sphere and the plate with the z axis.

Fig shows the symmetry section with respect to z axis.

Fig shows the symmetry section with respect to x axis.
5.Define the fixed support to the bottom face of the plate .

Fig shows the fixed support at the bottom of the plate.
6.Define the displacement of 4mm in the y direction negitive so that sphere section is pressing on the plate.

Fig shows the displacement of the sphere in y direction .
7.In the analysis settings give the step no as the 1 and the solver type as the direct and the large deflection on and then solve.
Results and comparision

Fig shows the directional deformation in y axis of min of -4mm and max of 0.32091mm.

Fig shows the equivalent elastic strain of the whole component with min of 1.1225e-05mm/mm and max of 0.049749mm/mm.

Fig shows the Equivalent stress of min of 1.9875mpa and max of 4283.8mpa.

Fig shows the equivalent elastic strain of sphere of min of 8.4879e-05mm/mm and max of 0.049749mm/mm.

Fig shows the plastic deformation of the plate of min of -3mm and max of 0.25718mm.
Conclusion
In this challenge learnt about the how to setup the operation of sphere pressing on the plate and learnt about the nonlinear properties of the structural steel and to run the simulation and compare the results.
