Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design
CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN of Switch Bezel using CATIA V5
AIM:
To create the core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel component.
DESCRIPTION:
1. PARTING LINE
- A parting line is an inevitable part of injection-moulded products.
- It is the line of separation between where two halves of a mould meet.
- It manifests itself on injection moulded parts as a line that runs the entire perimeter of the part.
- In most parts, it is just a line that runs straight down the middle.
- It is created by intersecting the final trim of the class B surface with the final trim of the class C surface.

2. PARTING SURFACE
- A parting surface is a surface that separates the mould block into two parts – the core and the cavity.
- It is created by trimming the final trim of the class B surface with the final trim of the class C surface.

3. CORE DESIGN
- It is the moving block in the injection moulding machine and it is mainly the projection of the design to moulded.
- The block is created by creating a boundary and extruding along with the tooling axis, the tooling axis defines the movement of the core and cavity.

4. CAVITY DESIGN
- A mould is a hollow form typically made from stainless steel that has plastic injected into it to manufacture a plastic part.
- It is the fixed halved of the injection moulding machine.
- The plastic is inserted into the mould cavity, which is a hole in the mould shaped like the desired part.
