AIM:
To perform structural analysis on steel plate and compare the stress results of steel plate with one hole and steel plate with two holes using the ANSYS Workbench.
Procedure:
1. Open the Ansys and select the structural analysis tab and drag it to the work space.
2. Now open the space claim to model the geomentry and draw a rectangle with hole and extrude the rectangle with the help of model option.
3. After that open the model and create a mesh on the geomentry with tria elements and keep elemnt size as 4mm.
4. Now create a fixed support at the one end and force with the 500N at another end.
5. Create a solution setup which consists of total deformation, stress and strain and solve the problem.
6. After solving the problem we get the animation part of stress, strain and total deformation. Like this we need to perform for the steel plate with three holes.
Results and Discussiom:
1. From the single hole analysis we can see that maximum deformation is 2.74e-05 mm and maximum stress and strain are 0.59MPa and 2.9646e-06.
2. From second plate which has three holes has total deformation of 2.96e-05 mm and maximum stress and strain are 0.58085MPa and 2.90e-06.
3. From both the analysis we can cleraly see that plate with single hole mores stress concentraion and where as in plate with extra small holes stress concentration is reduced, this shows that extra holes can reduce the stress concentrations.
4. To manufacture these plates manufacturer prefers single hole plate because it is easy to do for mass scaling production and reduces time and cost.
Conclusion:
Thus structural analysis performed on a steel plate which consists of hole and compared the results for the steel plate with extra two holes vs steel plate with single hole using ANSYS structural analysis.
