Project

Meshing the hood with good quality criteria using Hypermesh

Aim :

To mesh the hood surface using hypermesh with optistruct solver and to check quality of mesh with help of given quality parameters.

Procedure :

Geometry importing :

  1. Import the geometry which is in step file format into the hypermesh software and select the optisruct solver.
  2. After importing first check the geometry for any errors and all components are there in hypermesh.
  3. Delete the solids in the geometry by using \'delete\' option, because we are doing mid surface here so no need solids.

Midsurfacing and geometry clean up:

  1. Go to the geometry option and select the midsurface and check the extraction option if extraction option is in offset and swept change it to offset.
  2. After checking the extraction option select the individual part in the geometry, here I am doing midsurfacing individually to reduce the process time and to get good results.
  3. Slect the latch surface do a midsurface on it and after completing midsurface again check whether any solid are there if it is there use delete option to delete it.
  4. Rename the extracted midsurface and move it to the original one by using the \'organise\' option which is in \'tool\'.
  5. After that go to geometry and select the autoclean up option for cleaning up the geometry this is also doing individually because to reduce time.
  6. Go to the \'quick edit\' option select the washer and give washers to the holes because these washers will do a good meshing near holes. \"latchm\"

Meshing and checking the quality criteria :

  1. After completing the Midsurfacing and autocleanup go to \'2d\' and select the option automesh.
  2. In that give element size \'5 mm\' because here hood is going for durability test so it need a fine mesh so I have taken a 5 mm element size.
  3. Mesh the individual geometry which you have taken and check the elements are placed correctly or not if it is not increase or decrease the elements by manually.
  4. After washing go for the \'quality index\' option and select the clean up option with these we can see failed elements and we can remove it with the help of given options like place nodes, element optimize, combine tria elements e.t.c..
  5. If quality index options are not removing the failed elements go to \'element cleanup\' and select the edit criteria parameter and give the quality values and apply it, actually this to be done before meshing.
  6. After giving quality index values go to elements and select the elements and select the elements which is failed and clean up it if it is still not removing small elements then go to auto mesh and mesh the elements again and repeat the process till the fail percent goes to zero.

Repeat above procedures steps for remaining parts individually. \"latchmesh\"

Results and conclusion :

Thus the meshing and quality index are completed individually using hypermesh using optistruct solver.
