Project

Parallel bracket with 1d elements

Objective:

To mesh the parallel bracket by using midsurfaces option and add the 1d elements like rod, beam, bar and spring to the parallel bracket and to create the cross sections with given dimensions.

Procedure:

  1. Import the parallel bracket part which is in iges format to hypermesh software and select the optistruct option.
  2. After importing the part open geometry >> midsurfaces >> auto extraction >> surfs, select the surface in which mid surface want to made >> extract >> return.
  3. When we create another midsurfaces it will merge to one part which we don\'t need, so go to the model >> create, here create the new surface naming bracket 2 and now do the process for midsurface as shown above point(2).
  4. After completing the midsurface to the both brackets go to the delete >> solids >> select all >> delete entity >> return, here we want only midsurface so we are deleting the solids. Then delete the main part which is imported.
  5. Now we created the mid surfaces for parallel bracket, next we have to create a material and property to the part before meshing so create >> material >> name steel. By creating it now we get the material properties in down and give the properties for steel.
  6. Now create >> property >> name bracket 1, in that card image = pshell, thickness (t) = 2.00, select the material steel and do the same for bracket 2 but change thickness (t) = 2.5.
  7. After creating the both material and property add these to the components bracket 1 and bracket 2. Before meshing we have to add washers to the holes so go to geometry >> quick edits >> washers, give 4.00 size >> return. Now we can go for the meshing.
  8. Go to 2d >> auto mesh >> surfs >> element size = 8 >> mesh type = mixed >> mesh >> return, meshing is completed.
  9. Now we have to add 1d element I).Rod element : To create a rod element first we have to create a rigids so go to 1d >> rigids >> nodes, select by path >> give one dof1, it is only for translation and it is in x - axis >> create >> return, now rigid or rb2 element is created in bracket1 and do the same thing for bracket 2. Now go to 1d >> rod >> create >> element, here select the two nodes from each bracket >> element type = crod >> return, rod elements is created. 2). Beam element : To create beam element first we have to create a rb3 element so go to the 1d >> rb3 >> create >> multiple nodes, select by path >> select all DOFs from dof1 to dof2 >> create >> return, rb3 element is created and do the same for bracket 2. Now go to the bars >> select the nodes from both brackets >> element type = cbeam >> orientation, select the two nodes in which beam element has to be created >> return, beam element is created. 3). Bar element : To create bar elements it is same as beam element but some DOFs are changed like go to 1d >> rb3 >> create >> multiple nodes, select by path >> select only dof1 and dof2 >> create >> return, rb3 element is created and do same for bracket. Now we can create the bar element go to 1d >> bars >> select the nodes from both brackets >> orientation, select two nodes in which direction you need to add element >> element type = cbar >> return. Like this we can create 1d elements. 4). Create the mass like go to 1d >> nodes, select the node in which mass has to be created >> mass = 10 >> property = bracket1 and bracket2 >> element type = CMass1 >> create >> return. 5). We have to create spring element in between the two brackets so go to 1d >> springs >> nodes, select the two nodes >> element type = CElas1 >> return. Spring element is created.
  10. Now we want give a cross section and specific dimensions for that cross section so go to 1d >> standard section >> hypeebeam >> create, it will goes to a new tab in that we can create multiple cross sections with dimensions >> opti struct >> box for the rod, cross for the bar, I section for the beam >> select the each cross section and give the given dimensions in question >> model view, by selecting we will goes to original tab. Now we have created the three cross sections with dimensions for three elements rod, bar, beam.
  11. To add the cross sections and dimensions in the elements we need to create the property like create >> property >> card image = prod for rod, pbar for bar and pbeam for beam >> select the individual cross sections in beamsection. Cross sections are added now we have to update it.
  12. For Rod 1d >> rod >> update >> element, select the rod element >> property rod >> element type = crod >> update >> return. Rod is updated. For beam 1d >> bars >> update >> element, select the beam element >> property = beam >> element type = cbeam >> orientation, select the two nodes >> update, select the axis, element type and property. Now beam also updated, do the same for bar but change the property = bar and element type = cbar, like this three elements are updated.
  13. Two see the cross section in detail select the option 1d detailed element representation and 2d detailed representation. Now it displays the cross section.

Results and Conclusion :

Thus we done the midsurface on imported model and meshed the model and created a required 1d elements with given cross sections and dimensions.
