UNIVERSAL JOINT CHALLENGE
OBJECTIVES
In this challenge, you will have to perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy(They can all be found in the General Materials section) The three materials must be used on the joint with the springs alone. Use a refined mesh if possible, for the academic license. You need to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare them and submit a report regarding the same.
PROCEDURE
RESULTS
Case1 – Structural Steel
Total Deformation
Equivalent stress
Equivalent Elastic strain
Equivalent stress of Spring body
Case2 – Stainless Steel
Total Deformation
Equivalent stress
Equivalent Elastic strain
Equivalent stress of Spring body
Case3 – Titanium Steel
Total Deformation
Equivalent stress
Equivalent Elastic strain
Equivalent stress of Spring body
Conclusion
Total Deformation (mm) | Equivalent Stress (MPa) | |
Structural Steel | 38.637 | 1972.7 |
Stainless Steel | 38.637 | 1910.5 |
Titanium | 38.637 | 969.62 |
From the above stimulation result is the total deformation is equal in all the cases while in the stress is low in Titanium alloy material than other materials because the Young's Modulus in titanium is low compared to other materials.
