Assignment 7

STIMULATION OF SIDE CRASH ANALYSIS OF NEON BIW

OBEJECTIVE:

To stimulate side crash analysis of Neon BIW by creating rigid wall and assigning the required parameters and derive various output as shown in the question.

Neon side crash -BIW

  • Check unit system and either follow [Mg mm s] or [Kg mm ms].
  • Create appropriate interface, friction 0.2 and recommended parameters.
  • Make sure of no penetration and intersections.
  • Create rigid wall with friction 0.1 as per referance model.
  • Compare the model weight with the referance model and use added masses to reach target weight 700kg while getting CG about the required range.
  • Initial velocity as shown in picture.
  • Use model checker to ensure good quality.
  • Timestep :0.5 to 0.1 microseconds.
  • Run 80ms.

Output requests:

  • Sectional force in the cross member.
  • Intrusion at B pillar, hinge pillar and fuel tank region.Provide recommendation on what can help to reduce Fuel tank intrusion.
  • Peak velocity of inner node of the door.

PROCEDURE:

  • First, we have to check the unit of the system in the begin card in the model browser.
  • We have to create the interface in solver browser – right click – inter with the required parameter, and select both the slave node as whole BIW and master element as the whole BIW.
  • Then check the penetration by tool – penetration check.
  • Then create rigid wall by right click the model browser – rigid wall – infinite plane and assign the parameters.
  • Then compare the centre of gravity 300k node model by adding the mass on the BIW by clicking right the solver – admass – required node – mass.
  • Then give the initial 15.6464 mm/ms velocity in the load collector right click create – load collector – interval.
  • Then assign the time step 0.1 and run time in 80ms.
  • Then create the cross section in the required BIW components by solver – sect – sect.
  • The assign inter, intevel, and section into the Time history (TH).
  • Then create two nodes for the intrusion in the TH nodes and assign required skew in opposite nodes.

Von mises:

The max von mises stress is 4.371 e-01.

Section force on cross beam:

The max force at section 1 2.5KN at 75 ms and section 2 is 50.1KN at 56 ms the section 1 has less because it slightly apart from the impact pole if the impact is inbetween the sections

the force might be distruted

Intrusion on B- pillar:

The intrusion on B-pillar was mesured on node 1232254 with respect to 124249 is 764.525 mm and the individual intrusion is X=73.99, Y=-744.9, Z= -153.8.

Intrusion on hinge pillar:

The intrusion on hinge-pillar was mesured on node 123341 with respect to 124402 is 483.49 mm and the individual intrusion is X=-26.233, Y=-478.825, Z= -61.72.

Intrusion on fuel tank:

The intrusion on hinge-pillar was mesured on node 125389 with respect to 126364 is 283.549 mm and the individual intrusion is X=-108.28, Y=-261.219, Z= -20.97.

Peak Velocity of node:

The peak velocity is taken from the node 338527 which was requested from the time history initialy the velocity is 15.6m/s at the time of impact the peak velocity is 16.3 m/s at 4.5ms

after the impact the node velocity gradually decreases.

RESULT:

Time - 5058.68 s

No of cycles - 80001

Internal energy - 58.432 KJ

Energy error - -1.2% to 0%

Mass error - 0.1086E-01

Section force on cross beam - 50 KN & 2.5 KN

Intrusion on B- pillar - 764.2 mm

Intrusion on hinge pillar - 483.8 mm

Intrusion on fuel tank - 283.5 mm

Peak Velocity of node - 16.3 mm/ms
