WEEK 6 CHALLENGE

OBJECTIVE

               In this challenge we have to connect the back door of a car with different types of connection methods and explain the procedure to connect different component FE.

PROCEDURE

• Import the FE back door model into ANSA.

• Separate the components with different PID to make connections easier.

• To create rbe2 element go to Nastran deck – elements – rbe2 – select the nodes to be connected then click of.

• To create bolt connections, create rbe2 elements on both holes and then connect the mid-point with node rbe2.

• To denote washer split we use zone cut in mesh – shell mesh – zone cut.

• To create automated bolt connection create cog point on the hole – convert them into bolt by convert option in assembly manager – then go to connection manager - select the bolt point  - select the type of connections as bolt – give search distance – select the PID – select the zone types – apply and realize.

• To create weld connection convert length of the FE to be welded into curve – then convert the curve into seam line – then go to connection manager select the seam line – select the connections as overlap joint/y- joint – give search distance – select the pid to be connected – apply and realize.

• To create spot weld connection create cog point on the FE – convert them into spot line by convert option in assembly manager – then go to connection manager - select the spot   - select the type of connections as rbe3 hexa rbe3 – give search distance – select the PID – select the zone types – apply and realize.

• To create cbush connection create curve of FE – convert them into spot line by convert option in assembly manager – then go to connection manager -  select the spot   - select the type of connections as cbush – give search distance – select the PID – apply and realize – then change the orient and CID of  the cbush to global axis.

CONCLUSION

    Finally, the required connections with dof are given to the FE model of the back door.
