1D elements

OBJECTIVES:

Week 4 challenge is to create 1D elements on the following component with given cross-section and DOF

1. Rod element: - with only translational DOF and RBE2 link

Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

                               dimension b=10 mm

                               Thickness t= 0.75 mm

1. Beam element: - with all DOF and RBE3 link

Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

                                      Dimension b= 10 mm

                                      Dimension c= 8.5 mm

                                      Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

                                      Thickness t2= .6 mm

                                      Thickness t3= .6 mm

1. Bar element: - with only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

Cross-section: CROSS section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

                                              Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

                                              Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

                                              Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

1. & e. apply the massof magnitude 10 with RBE2 link
2. Join the two components with Spring elements

PROCEDURE:

• Import parallel_bracket. iges in to hypermesh.

• Delete the fillets in the brackets by using Geom – defeature – surf fillets.
• Create the mid-surface of the brackets using geom- midsurface- extraction option – offset+planes+sweep – auto extraction – extract.

• Then create washer split on the holes by Geom- quick edit – washer split – 5.

• Create 2D mesh of element size of 8 by 2D- automesh – surf – mesh.

• Create the cross-sections using hyperbeam 1D- hyperbeam- generic section- create. Hyperbeam view will open.

1.    (a.box right) click create – standard sections – hypermesh – thin wall box.
2.    (b.I-section) right click create – standard sections – hypermesh – standard I section.
3.    (c.cross section) right click create – standard sections – optistruct – cross.

• Create rbe2 link in a, d and e 1D- rigids- circulated nodes – select the required nodes in that region – create. (with required dof)
• To create rbe3 link in b and c 1D- rbe3- circulated nodes – select the required nodes in that region – create. (with required dof)

• To create rod element go to 1d- rod – select two nodes in (a) region – create.
• To create be beam element go to 1d ­– bars- select the two nodes in (b) region – elem types= cbeam- create.
• To create be bar element go to 1d ­– bars- select the two nodes in (c) region – elem types= cbar- create.

• Then create three property in project tree for rod, beam and bar with required card image PROD, PBEAM and PBAR.
• Then assign the required cross-sections in the property.
• Then update the properties in the 1d elements.

• To create masses in d and f region go to 1d- masses – select the nodes and give the magnitude value of 10.
• To join the two elements in spring go to 1d- spring- select two nodes – create.

RESULT AND CONCLLUSION:

• Created rbe2 and rbe3 links
• Created bars, rod and beam element with required cross-sections.
