CASING DESIGN USING NX SHEET METAL APPLICATION:
OBJECTIVE:
To design a Casing as per specified dimensions and profiles.
Introduction:
This work provides a detailed view on how to design a casing using NX SHEET METAL Application.
Design Methodology:
PROCEDURE:
1) Sketch a rectangle in XY - Plane with x = 60mm and Y = 50mm.
2) Change the Sheet Metal preferences value of Global Parameters to 1mm:
4) Using tab option to create sheet metal of 1mm thickness.
5) Creating a rectangle at the left end (Y=40mm, X=5mm) of the sheet .
6) using cutout option to remove the middle section from the Sheet metal
7) Creating lines at specified location on both ends of the sheet where the bend is to be made.
8) Using bend option to bend the metal areas at 90 degrees from the previous position.
9) Using Flange option where flanges are required with a length of 5mm.
10) Once flanges are created, Corner option with radius of 1mm is given and edges are selected to remove any sharp edhges.
11) Once the above operations are performed, Unbend option is used to unbend the surfaces to XY plane:
12)Points on flanges are created where screw hole is to be made:
13) Holes option is selected and type Screw Hole is selected with the follwoing options.
14) Initially a sketch with 5mm lines are made resembing a "+" symbol. Spline curveoption is selected and each points of the sketch is selected to get a smooth curve which is moved by 45 degrees.:
14) A circle sketch is made at specified location where the bead is to be made.
15) Bead option is selected and the circle sketch is selected to obtain the bead.
16) Once a bead is obtained, Mirror feature option is used to mirror the bead in XZ and YZ plane to obtain beads at the below shown areas.
17) Once all the features are made, Rebend option is used to regain the original casing design as shown below:
After all these steps, Drafting view is saved as Pdf file.
CONCLUSION:
By follwoing the above steps, A casing design is finished and the Casing is shown below at four different view angles.
