Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Switch Bezel Design

Objective: The main objective of this project is to draft analysis, Tooling axis, and Closed surface for a Switch bezel

Draft Analysis: A small draft angle is provided to each and every area of components in order to get easy removal of the components from the tool. The draft analysis technique is used to analyze whether our part model created in cad is manufacturable based on the draft condition applied, or It is a method of checking the draft angle on various faces of a part with a particular direction.
The major consideration of draft analysis is whether a sufficient draft angle is provided on the components. components while designing should be provided with a considerable amount of draft angle depending on the manufacturing consideration. For plastic components provide a draft angle of 3 degrees ( draft angle of 0.5 is given ideally to the feature inside the plastic part). But for automotive sheet metal s, it will be from 7 degrees or more.

Tooling Axis: The tooling axis is created for opening and closing for Core and cavity

Procedure

Class A Surface

Tooling Axis

Inserting an axis system, to Sketching a two-line by using the positioned sketch as a tool, selecting a two-line by Bisecting line command to get new Tooling axis for drafting purposes and manufacturing purposes also.

Draft Analysis for Class A surface

  • Selecting a compass as a new draft direction for Draft analysis and inserting it on the tooling axis also here we have to invert command for investing a compass as we required.
  • In the lock command, we get a cross mark place it on the Class A surface by giving a proper draft angle it shows the Green colour as a indicate if it shows Blue as an indicator it is less than or negative as a draft angle.
  • The running point shows a draft angle on each surface whether it has 3 degrees or more than that for plastic components draft angle need 3 degrees for sheet metal draft angle to need 7 degrees.
