STRESS ANALYSIS OF SPUR GEAR USING THREE DIFFERENT MATERIALS
OBJECTIVE :
In this analysis , we are opted to spanalyze for the stress concentration acting up on the spur gear and their behavior ( deformation) upon loads at different time basis ,. and finally recommend efficient material .
PROCEDURE :
CONTACTS:
JOINTS:
MESH :
A default of 1 mm mesh is used here for all the three materials
BOUNDARY CONDITIONS :
The gear is to be rotated for 180 degrees in 6 steps
No . Of steps : 6
Angle : 180 degree
MATERIAL 1 : cast iron ( ductile )
MATERIAL 2 : cast steel
MATERIAL 3 : cast copper ( bronze )
MATERIAL 3 :
MATERIAL 1 :
MATERIAL 2 :
DEFORMATION AND STRESS ANIMATION:
CAST IRON
CAST STEEL
RESULT :
From the above analysis we come to conclude that , each material has their own property , among them cast iron and cast steels are generally used for large transmissions , where as cast copper is used in small scale transmission , for example : cast copper is used in watches , whereas the cast iron and cast steels are used in the transmission of automobiles sometimes and also in several other machinary . So , I will recommend cast iron , which is widely used and also easily available from sctrach too and can also be used to transmit more power , withstand stress and has some life than other two materials.
