Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

SPHERE PRESSING ON A PLATE

AIM:

TO SIMULATE AND ANALYSE FOR THE DEFORMATION OF THE PLATE WHEN A SPHERE BALL MADE TO IMPACT ON IT, IN THIS SIMULATION WE ARE GOING TO CONSIDER ¼ TH OF THE GEOMETRY AND THEN LATER WE ARE USING SYMMTERIC REGION TO MIRROR THE GEOMETRY AND TO FIND THE RESULTS.

MODEL:

This model consists of a sphere and a plate , everything in this is model in constructed in ¼th of the original geometry.

MATERIALS:

The materials used in this analysis are structural steel and structural steel non linear properties . the plate is comprised of structural steel non- linear properties and the sphere is made of structural steel .

STRUCTURAL STEEL :

STRUCTURAL STEEL ( NL ) :

SYMMETRIC REGION :

This symmetric region is used to define the similar faces of a model or a geometry , in order to reduce the computational time and the cost efficiency , we are using the symmetric region to obtain one part of the geometric analysis results and then we can mirror them accordingly to get the entire geometry result in a very short time . This symmetric region can be applicable only to the similar structure geometry .

CONTACTS:

In this simulation we are using a fricitonal contact with co-efficient of friction of 0.74 .

MESH :

We are introducing a face sizing mesh of size 1 mm to the contact and target faces , where as in the other faces we are using grid dependency test to generate the default mesh size .

ANALYSIS SETTINGS:

The simulation is carried out in 7 steps, with large deflection on, and the type of simulation is said to be direct.

FIXED SUPPORT:

DISPLACEMENT:

The force has been implemented in the analysis by means of displacement in the negative direction first and to retract it in the opposite direction .

Directional deformation :

Equivalent elastic strain :

Equivalent stress ( von-mises) :

Equivalent stress ( von – mises ) plate :

Contact region :

Pressure :

Force convergence:

RESULT :

Thus we come to conclude that the deformation happened in the plate is a plastic deformation .
