Q.) Discuss two new trends in battery system field.

1. Battery Swapping Technology.

- It allows EVs to exchange a discahrged pack for a charged one as an alternative to plugging the vehicle into charging station.

- It is a time saving method of refulling an EV.

- Currently it supports integration in 2 & 3 wheelers only.

- Its limitation is standardisation in battery technology & swapping infrastructure.

2. Solid State Battery.

- Nominal Li-ion battery consist of two electrodes immersed in a liquid electrolyte.

- In SS battery, this liquid electrolyte is replaced with a solid like glass or ceramic.

- It significanlty reduces the weight of the pack.

- Compact design makes it possible to stack more number of cells thus increasing battery capacity.
