SECTION MODULUS
SECTION MODULUS IS THE GEOMETRIC PROPERTY OF THE GIVEN CROSS SECTION OF THE SECTION OR OF GIVEN STRUCTURE. IT IS THE DIRECT MEASUREMENT OF THE STRENGTH OF THE GIVEN SECTION OR STRUCTURE.
HIGHER THE SECTION MODULUS OF THE STRUCTURE OR THE SECTION MORE IT WILL BE RESISTIVE TO THE BENDING.
SECTION MODULUS IS DEFINED AS

HERE Z IS SECTION MODULUS
I IS THE MOMENT OF INERTIA OF THE GIVEN SECTION OR STRUCTURE
Y IS DISTANCE FROM THE NEUTRAL AXIS TO THE EXTREME FIBRE OF THE SECTION.
TWO TYPES OF SECTION MODULUS
1. ELASTIC SECTION MODULUS : IT IS USED FOR THE MATERIALS WHICH BEHAVE ELASTICALLY UNDER THE LOADING
2.PLASTIC SECTION MODULUS: IT IS USED FOR MATERIALS WHICH HAVE PLASTIC BEHAVIOUR .
IN ENGINEERING WE ALWAYS HAVE TO CALCULATE THE ELASTIC SECTION MODULUS. AS WE ASSUME ALL MATERIALS TO BE OF ELASTIC BEHAVIOUR .
SECTION MODULUS OF THE HOOD SECTION
HERE Imin is 1.365 e^4 mm^4
Imax is 4.825 e^6 mm^4
AND VALUE OF Y IS 879.5538/2 =439.8
SO FROM THESE WE GET SECTION MODULUS Z AS
Zmin=1.365 e^4/439.8
Zmin=0.169 e^4 mm^4
Zmax=4.825 e^6 /439.8
Zmax=4.425 e^6 mm^4
OPTIMIZATION OF SECTION MODULUS
WE CAN IMPROVE THE SECTION MODULUS BY IMPROVING THE MOMENT OF INERTIA OF THE SECTION.
HOW WE CAN ACHIEVE THAT IS BY INCREASING THE DISTANCE OF THE INNER PANEL SECTION
AND OR INCREASING THE EMBOSSES THICKNESS .
WHAT IT ACTUALLY DO IS,, IT IMPROVES THE SECTION TO RESIST THE ROTATIONAL MOMENT OF THE SECTION. WHICH RESULTS IN INCREASED MOMENT OF INERTIA
HERE I HAVE INCREASED THE EMBOSSES THICKNESS AND THE DISTANCE OF THE INNER PANEL TO THE OUTER PANEL.
