Aim:-
To Perform an explicit dynamics simulation to find out the equivalent stress, total deformation, and temperature of the body for the planar model, for the following two cases with a cutting velocity of 20000 m/sec and 150000 m/sec.
Procedure:-
1. Import the geometry as given in the challenge.
Fig 1.Given geometry
2. Add the material STEEL 1006 from Engineering data.
Fig 2.STEEL Material 1006 Properties
3. Rename the parts into the workpiece, and cutting tool.
4. Apply STEEL 1006 material to the workpiece.
5. set stiffness behavior as rigid to the cutting tool.
6. Use edge sizing to mesh the edges of the work piece with 10 divisions.
7.Mesh the Cutting tool using tetrahedrons
Fig 3. Meshed model of the geometry
8. In Analysis settings, set the end time as 7.5 e-4 sec.
9.Give velocity to the cutting tool ( 20,0000 mm/sec) ~in the X-direction.
Fig 4. Velocity given to the cutting tool
10.Give Fixed support to the bottom of the workpiece.
Fig 5. Give Fixed support to the bottom of the workpiece
Results:-
Case 1 - Cutting velocity 20,000 mm/sec given to the cutting tool
Fig 6.Total Deformation ( case 1)
Fig 7.Equivalent stress ( case 1)
Fig 8. Temperature of the geometry
Case 2:-
Case 1 - Cutting velocity 15,000 mm/sec given to the cutting tool
Fig 9.Total Deformation ( case 2)
Fig 10.Equivalent stress ( case 2)
Fig 11.Temperature of the geometry ( case 2)
Comparison:-
Cutting velocity Total Deformation Equivalent stress Temperature of geometry
20000 mm/sec 34.31 mm 439.04 Mpa 367.77 C
15000 mm/sec 19.548 mm 646.75 Mpa 364.75 C
Conclusion:-
Thus Explicit dynamics simulation for the planar model was done for the two cases of cutting velocity and the results were compared.
