Aim:-
To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket for three different non-linear materials for bucket and analyze the behaviour for the same velocity of bullet.
Procedure:-
1.Import the geometry as given in the challenge
Fig 1.Given geometry
2.Apply the material aluminium alloy ( non-linear ) to the bucket and tantalum material to the bullet.
3. set stiffness behavior as rigid to the bullet.
4.go to sizing use edge sizing and select the two edges of the bucket and mesh with element size of 6mm and generate mesh.
Fig 2.Edge sizing of bucket with element size of 6mm
5.In Analysis settings,set end time as 0.01 and max.energy error as 5.
6.select bottom faces of the bucket and make it as fixed support.
Fig 3.Fixed support given to the bottom faces of bucket.
7.give velocity of the bullet of magnitude ( -139000 mm/sec) in x-direction.
Fig 4.Velocity given for bullet with magnitude of -139000 mm/sec.
Results:-
Case 1-
Aluminum alloy ( non-linear ) as material for bucket.
Fig 5.Total Deformation ( aluminium alloy non linear )
Fig 6.Equivalent stress ( aluminum alloy non linear )
Fig 7.Equivalent elastic strain ( aluminium alloy non linear )
Case 2:-
Copper alloy ( non linear ) as a material for bucket.
Fig 8.Total Deformation ( copper alloy non linear )
Fig 9.Equivalent stress ( copper alloy non linear )
Fig 10.Equivalent elastic strain ( copper alloy non linear )
Case 3:-
Magnesium alloy ( non linear ) as a material for bucket.
Fig 11.Total Deformation ( magnesium alloy non linear )
Fig 12.Equivalent stress ( magnesium alloy non linear )
Fig 13.Equivalent elastic strain ( non linear )
Comparison:-
Material Total Deformation Equivalent stress Equivalent elastic strain
Aluminum alloy ( non linear ) 1390.9 617.91 0.017319
Copper alloy ( non linear ) 770.83 1197.4 0.024625
Magnesium alloy ( non linear ) 1391.7 507.64 0.044376
Conclusion:-
Thus bullet penetrating a bucket is simulated for three different cases applying three different materials for the bucket and behavior is analyzed for the same velocity of the bullet and the results were compared.
