Aim:- To find out the plastic deformation of a sphere and plate for sphere pressing on a plate in Ansys workbench.
Procedure:-
1.We Import the geometry as given in the challenge.
2. We apply Structural steel for the sphere and structural steel non-linear for the plate.
Fig 1. Structural steel material properties.
Fig 2.Structural steel non-linear material properties
3. Give Frictional contact by selecting sphere as contact and plate as the target with a frictional coefficient of 0.74.
Fig 3. Frictional contact with a coefficient of 0.74.
4. Give symmetry regions to the component with normals z-axis and x-axis.
5. Use default size for meshing the components.
6. In analysis settings, put solver type as direct and turn on Large deflection on
7. Give Fixed support for the Bottom of the plate.
8. Apply displacement to the top face of the sphere, in the negative direction of 4 mm as per the problem.
Fig 4. Displacement of 4mm ( Negative Y direction ) given to the top face of the sphere.
Results:-
Fig 5. Directional deformation of the Component in Y axis
Fig 6.Equivalent Stress of a plate
Fig 7.Equivalent elastic strain of a Sphere
Fig 8.Equivalent elastic strain of a plate
Conclusion:-
From the above structural analysis of the sphere pressing on a plate, it is clear that sphere and plate exhibit equivalent elastic strain of 1.9239e-6 and 0.015258 respectively.
