Aim:- To perform transient structural analysis on a worm gear assembly and find equivalent stress, equivalent strain, and total deformation of the model.
Procedure:-
1. Import the geometry as given in the challenge.
Fig 1.Given geometry
2. As given in the challenge, For the academic version, you need to cut the gear by half so as to bring the model within limits.
3. So we open the space claim since we need to cut the gear in half.
4. To cut, first, we have to define a plane, to define a plane cut the design tab ~ plane and select ~ y-axis.
Fig 2.Plane definition ( Y axis)
5. Next, we have to split the body, To split, Go to the design tab ~ split the body ~ select the body ~ and select the plane.
Fig 3.After splitting the body using the plane
6. Then we delete unwanted portions and get the final body.
Fig 4. Final body
7. We rename the parts into worm and gear.
8. After that, we assign the structural steel to the worm and gear.
9. Give Frictionless contact between the worm and gear by selecting all tooth in the gear.
Fig 5.Frictionless contact between worm and gear.
10. Mesh the model with adaptive sizing.
11. Give revolute joints for worm and gear.
12.Give analysis settings with the Initial time step as 0.2 sec, Min. time step as 0.2 sec, and max. time step as 0.5 sec.
13.Use 15 steps to run the simulation.
14.Give Joint load ( rotation ) to gear.
Fig 6.Joint load ( rotation )
Results:-
Total deformation
Fig 7.Total Deformation
Equivalent stress
Fig 8. Equivalent stress
Equivalent elastic strain
Fig 9. Equivalent elastic strain
Conclusion:-
Thus transient structural analysis on worm gear is done and the results were found out.
