OBJECTIVE
To design back door with provided styling surface by using appropriate methodologies. To provide necessary hemming,
assemblies, reinforcements, reliefs of backdoor. To provide draft analysis of backdoor is the objective of this challenge.
INTRODUCTION
The door or opening of a cargo area may be hinged at the top, side, or bottom. If the door is hinged at the bottom it is called a
tailgate, particularly in the United States. They are used on station wagons and pickup trucks, as well as on some sport utility
vehicles (SUV). Traditional drop-down station wagon and pickup tailgates can also serve as a mount for a workbench.
Traditional U.S. station wagons included a roll-down window retracting into the tailgate to load small items or to allow the
tailgate to be opened down on its bottom-mounted hinges. Because of the potential for carbon-monoxide fumes, the tailgate
window on station wagons should be closed whenever the engine is running.
Two-way station wagon tailgates may be hinged at the side and the bottom so they can be opened sideways like a regular
door, or drop downwards as load platform extenders. They are designed with special handle(s) for opening in the selected
direction on special hinges after the window is lowered.
A three-way design that was also used by Ford allows for the tailgate to be opened like a door with the window up.
General Motors developed a clam shell style "disappearing" design where the rear window rolls up into the roof and the
tailgate slides down and beneath the load floor. If the door is hinged at the top it is termed a hatch, and is used on
a hatchback. A bottom opening door is now common on SUVs.
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
BACK DOOR INNER PANEL

Back door inner panel is used to give strength to the back boor outer panel.
BACKDOOR OUTER PANEL

Back door outer panel upper part is present back of the car and is attatched to the roof of the car.

Back door outer panel lower part is present at the lower portion of upper panel and it is attached to the ourer upper panel.
TOOLING DIRECTION AND TRAJECTORY

Tooling direction gives the idea to designer on which side we are designing, thickening. To position the latches, this trajectory
helps to place them in exact position.
ASSEMBLY OF HINGES AND LATCH REINFORCEMENTS

This hinges and latches help the backdoor to assemble the back door to roof. This help back door to be in steady postion
without any movement.
HEMMING AND RELIEF

Hemming of outer panels and inner panel with the help of sweep method. This hemming helps outer panels to attatch to inner
panel which avoid movement of panels.

Reliefs of outer panel prevents the stress concentration at the edges and helps in free flow of heat and stress. So no damages
occurs at this areas.
DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis helps the designer where the rough surface is present and he rectifies it until the green color appears on the
surface while analyzing.
CONCLUSION
- With the help of nx cad, design of backdoor with embosses, reinforcements, and assembly is done
- Draft analysis of the body is also done.
- Now we can send this design to further processing.
