DOOR TRIM LOWER WITH HEAT STAKES AND LOCATORS

AIM

To create a 4-way and 2-way locators with heat stakes using design rulers.

PROCEDURE

Designing the Door Applique with the given class a surface and counterpart clearence surface. for designing the engoneering features for the door

applique we requried locators which are 4-way and 2-way locator.

4-way mean you prevent movement at 2 axis (+X, -X, +Y and -Y) on the plane.

2-way mean you prevent movement only at 1 axis on the plane

Heat Staking It's also known as thermoplastic staking is the process of joining two dissimilar materials together.

3-2-1 PRINCIPLE

Every part should be fixed before operating a machining process.because every part has 12 degree of freedom which are distinguished as translational and rotational motion.

Restrict all six degrees of freedom so that the part cannot move and remains fixed.

  1. Translation along x,y and z-axis
  2. Rotational alonmg x,y and z-axis.

4 WAY LOCATORS

4-way locators prevent movement at 2 axis (+X, -X, +Y and -Y) on the plane.

2 WAY LOCATORS

2-way locator prevent movement only in 1 axis on the plane.

HEAT STAKES

Heat stakes are located near the edges of component. For that, B side of the component is extracted and its edge curves are made offsite on

surface. A number of equidistant points are created on curve as per required number of heat stakes.Heat stakes are created in the same way as

locators. A sketch is used to extrude the heat stake body. The height of heat stake is kept lower than locator as locating will happen first then heat

stakes come in contact with counterpart. Heat stake walls are also provided with draft.

Heat staking is the process to attach two separate components together by melting the base plastic material into a shape that will hold the

secondary component. It’s a permanent attachment method that does not require any additional material such as an adhesive or a solvent to

make the permanent bond. The only addition is the heat applied to melt the plastic and a tool to shape the plastic to form the mechanical

connection.Heat staking can be done with a precise and rapid operation that also offers repeatable results every cycle. Manufacturing machine can

be developed to complete multiple heat staking operations at once to decrease cycle time. The stakes don’t have to be parallel which makes the

design options limitless.Heat staking is a great option that is comparable in strength and durability to other operations involving secondary

fasteners without extra cost. These connections can also resist corrosion in harsh environments.

REASONS FOR HEAT STAKING

--Mutiple staking shapes for different benefits.

--Excellent durability.

--No extra materials are needed.

--Increased efficiency.

--Easy Maintenance.
