Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

FENDER

Fender is a plastic, metal, or rubber curved panel over the wheels on the side of a car, extending from the front bumper of the car to the door. The main purpose of fenders is to keep dirt, mud, and other debris off of the tires and braking system, making them safer and more efficient

WHEEL ARCH

It is a semicircular profile above wheels designed for enclosing tire within the fender. The wheel arch is designed considering all possible motions the tire undergoes while the vehicle is in motion. The wheel arch also ensures stopping any debris that could possibly fly outside the wheel well and hit pedestrians.

PROCEDURE

Take the outline of the wheel and the fender.

Make the centre of the wheel circle.

Draw horizontal and vertical perpendicular axes from the centre of the wheel circle.

Draw lines at 30 degrees and 50 degrees from the centre.

Make a point on the fender line at 150mm from the horizontal.

Extend a line to this point from the centre.

Then make a line that is exactly between the 50-degree line and the line made on the 150mm point.

CONCLUSION

  • The given design does not satisfy european standards as only SB satisfy european standards.
  • So design should be resdesigned for better dimensions
  • The value of (a) satisfies japan standards as every value is greater than 5mm
  • Only SB value should not be changed remaining values should be changed as every value should be greater than 10mm.
