3D Tetra meshing

AIM:

To mesh the housing model with 3D elements using 2D elements of minimum length of 2mm, maximum length of 7mm with target element length of 5mm, and 3D elemnts should qualify for tet collapse of 0.15.

Housing Mode:

procedure:

1. Import the geometry into the hupermesh using import option. 2 parts of the housing are shown in below figures (Fig1 and Fig 2).

Fig 1: Housing Centre part.

Fig 2: Housing Hub.

2. If the imported geometry is in solid, delet the solids and retain only surfaces.

3. check for defectes in the geometry by changing geometry colour mode to 2D topo, and fix the defects if any using toggeling the edges or by creating the surfaces.

4. set the element criteria setting, Preferance -> Criteria file setting.

5. using auto mesh option from 2D menu creat 2D elements using QI optimize option.

6.Check the quality of the 2D elements, and fix the failed elements by remeshing the failed elements.

7. now using 3D menu, select tetramesh option, set the parameters required for tetramesh uing tetramesh parameter setting.

8. Once the parameters are entered, switch to tetra mesh option and change the selection to elements, select the generated 2D elements and click mesh, 3D mesh will be generated.

above steps are explained using the figure below.

Fig 3: 3d mesh generation from 2d elements.

9. check for 3D mesh generation by masking some of the elements.

3D mesh generated.

10. Quality check for 2D and 3D elements. tools ->check elements -> 2-d

tools ->check elements -> 3-d -> Tet collapse

Fig 4: Quality check for 2D and 3D mesh.

11. if there are failed elements in 3D ( Tet collapse) use tetra remesh option to remesh the failed elements and eleminate the failed elements.

Fig 5:Tetra remesh for failed elements.

Conclusion:

The parts given were meshed using 3D elements and checked for the quality, further, failed elements are fixed to qualify for the quality using tetra remesh option to clear the tet collapse.

Model 2 and 4:

Aim:

To mesh the given models using 3d elements using element size 6, and check for 3d mesh quality (Tet collapse).

Procedure :

1. imoprt the geometry into the HM.

2. delet the solids from the geometry and retain all the surfaces.

3.clean the parts for mesh.

4. mesh the parts uisng quick tetra mesh form the utility option

view -> Browsers -> hypermesh -> utility

5. Select the components to be meshed, check the 3D elements generation.

6.Check for the tet collapse in check element option.

7. fix the failed element as explained previously.

8. organise all the elements into the proper component.

Component 2.

Component 3.

Component 4.

Assembly.

Model 4.

Conclusion.

The parts are meshed using the quick tetra mesh option from the utility menu, the meah is then checked for the quality. The failed elements are remeshed using the tetra remesh option form the 3D panel.
