Challenge

Week - 5 - Modelling Spotwelds

Aim - To model spot welds for the assembly and simulate crash test analysis for the given

Procedure - open the k file in ls prepost check all the keywords in the model

then lets start with renaming the parts in the model by top and bottom

now to connect we need to ontroduce spot weld in between the top and the bottom of the part

go to element and mesh> element generation> then select beam option

now we will make a section sheel in the model

all > section > shell > title= section shell

rest properties given in the pic

now instead of shell we will go to beam in section

now we will introduce material properties for the parts and the spot weld as well

now give the sec id and material id to the parts and the spotweld

now we will introduce the rigidwall in the model

now lets introduce initia; velocity to the model which is 20 mm/ms

now we need to select the set of nodes for the crossection

now we will introduce contact automatic single surface

introduce tied contact

now to introduce the termination card in the model

after introducing termination time we introduce a database card of binary d3plot

now to study all the graphs we need to introduce database card for it

now we will make a node set in location away from center

we will introduce cross section set

after doing all this check the model

then run the solver to see if any error and name them spotweld.k

case 2

rest every thing remains same but we delete the beam spot weld and create solid spotweld

and define the mat 100 to the weld

and apply it to the part id

then simply run the model

CASE 1 ENERGY GRAPH

CROSS SECTION FORCE

EFFECTIVE VON MISES STRESS

CASE 2 ENERGY PLOT GRAPH

CROSS SECTIONAL FORCE

VONMISES STRESS

AS PER THE PLOTS WE CAN SAY INTERNAL ENERGY INCREASES WITH DECREASE IN KINECTIC ENERGY AND TOTAL ENERGY REMAINS CONSTANT AND THE HOURGLASS ENERGY IS ZERO ALL OVER

CROSS SECTIONAL FORCE IS RECORDED WITH RESPECT TO THE X AXIS

DUE TO THE TIME BASED FAILURE CARD OF 2.5 MS THE SPOTWELD IN BOTH CASE GOT FAILED AND GOT DELETED
