Underbody Coating

Underbody coating-

Underbody coating is usually a thick layer applied uniformly to the undercarriage of the automobile. It is normally sprayed or painted. This coating is generally made to prevent damage to that underlying surface from dust and stones. These stones when hits that surface it leads to damage of the metal and then paint. If the paint is chipped off, then corrosion occurs which results in a decrease in strength.

This is not a permanent layer, it often fades off and the protection will decrease gradually. Then after few years the owner must undercoat it again from the car dealer to prevent any damage to the underbody.

The factors which affect the vehicles are as follows-

Atmospheric humidity and air quality.

exposure to more saltwater

Terrain- if there is a kaccha road the stones and the chances of damage are more.

If the vehicle is used in very high moisture and high rainfall region it is for sure that the owner needs the undercoating.

Few vehicles in some regions are already undercoated best way possible from the dealership by considering the climate of that city.

Other than fighting rust, it also adds reinforcement and absorbs noise and vibration which gives a smooth feeling when driving.

This coating includes 5 main process steps-

1) Pretreatment- This mainly cleans the dirt and other particles stuck to the surface.

2) ED- Electro deposition which prevents rust and provides protection from corrosion.

3) PVC- Polyvinyl chloride is applied as sealing at joints and wherever the leaks are.

4) Primer- This is applied to form a strong adhesion between surface and basecoat.

5) topcoat- this is applied as a final layer which gives a smooth finish and colour.
