Fender Design Challenge
Fender design challenge
Objective- To design a fender using the master sketch and IGS file in NX cad
A fender is the part of a car that protects and frames its wheels and keeps mud, dust and stones from splashing it inside the engine compartment and protects the car and pedestrians from dust and stones getting off the roads. Fender is designed with aesthetic appeal too.

The fender I have designed is Half bumper type.
The sheet metal body was given to us in the IGS file. And the master section drawing was given to us to design the drip area in the fender.
This fender is mounted at 5 points
- Drip area
- Body mount
- Sill mount
- A-pillar mount
- Baffle cover mount

Designing of drip area
- It is the area through which the fender is attached to engine housing through fasteners.
- There are design considerations followed to design the drip area of the fender.
- Embosses are mounted and a dart is applied in the drip area for strengthening.
- From the backside of the front fender, there will be 200mm clearance for the cowl(wiper motor) mounting
- From the front side of the front fender, there will be 150mm clearance for the headlamp housing unit.
- The remaining area we can use to design a drip area.
- The drip area will not reach the engine assembly due to a restriction of 40mm length, so there will be some L-Shaped Bracket to connect with it.

Bumper mounting-
This part is fastened with the bumper

Sill mounting area-
Here this region is fastened with a floor of the door.

A-pillar mount area-
This area is fastened with the A-pillar.

Baffle mounting area-
These are just fastened with the plastic body which covers the fender and the engine compartment.
