Challenge

Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

Sheet metal box assembly

Objective-

The aim of this assessment is to design a BOX in NX cad with sheet metal application. It is simple and easy to design which helps us to understand the basic features and techniques to be applied while designing.

Introduction-

This is  a box made by sheet metal features, which is designed for industrial storage of some equipment and tools.

This is designed by using features like Tabs flanges, hems, normal cut-out, bending and unbending, dimples and beads.

Design methodology-

Description-

Tab-

Basically, we start with applying a tab feature to a sketch. The thickness is set to 1mm.

Flange-

The tab has been given flanges to cover as walls in a perpendicular and a length of 200mm.

Closed corner-

This feature is used to close the corner which are left opened while creating a flanges.

Flange and Hem flange-

These 2 are created to join the sheet metal and lock them side wise by using flange and Hem flange

Mirrored feature and Unite-

After creating half of the box it is mirrored and also united to form single sheet of metal.

Dimple-

A dimple is made on the wide face of the box. And is mirrored to another face. and a dimple on the bottom face is also made.

Beads-

The box is unbent to do further operations like beads. A bead is added on the lower surface of the box and is then mirrored to create 3 more.

Hem flanges-

Hem flanges are added along the edges of the box.

A tab is created on the top of the box of thickness of 1mm. Flanges are given to the lid.

Also a hinge is made to open and close the lid at one end.
