OBJECTIVE:
To design of butterfly valve in appropriate dimension with the application of GD&T. Assemble all the individual parts of the butterfly valve by assigning suitable constraints. understand the concept of geometric tolerance and dimensioning.

INTRODUCTION:
BUTTERFLY VALVE:
A butterfly valve is a valve that isolates or regulates the flow of a fluid. The closing mechanism is a disc that rotates. A butterfly valve is from a family of valves called quarter-turn valves. In operation, the valve is fully open or closed when the disc is rotated a quarter turn. The "butterfly" is a metal disc mounted on a rod. When the valve is closed, the disc is turned so that it completely blocks off the passageway. When the valve is fully open, the disc is rotated a quarter turn so that it allows an almost unrestricted passage of the fluid. The valve may also be opened incrementally to throttle flow.

Butterfly valve drafting we use CATIA V5 software and creating GD&T.
SHAFT-BUTTERFLY VALVE
The shaft is one of the important component of butterfly valve. It inserts into the body of the valve and sits perpendicular to the direction of flow. It holds the disc inside the body and clamped with lever outside of the body. It is created using simple features like revolve and extrudes features in the CATIA V5 part model. After the part creation is completed and move on to 2D drafting and apply GD&T used in CATIA V5.
DRAFTING AND GD&T
A1 size of the sheet is used to create a drawing of the shaft and here only two datums are used as one degree of freedom is required for efficient working of the shaft. Datum A1 and A2 are given to the part surface comes to contact with the body of the butterfly valve. And datum B is given to the base of the shaft. Different tolerances are given to some features which are important for the function of tge shaft.
RETAINER:
This part helps to retain to fix the shaft with the body of the butterfly valve. It prevents the shaft from coming out of the body and keeps it in position for the proper functioning of the disc inside the body. The creation of the retainer plate involves only a simple feature like extrude in CATIA V5 and apply GD&T.
DRAFTING AND GD&T:
After the modeling, the part is taken to the drafting portion where the three datums A,B,C are applied. Datum target area A1,A2,A3 are primary datum applied retainer and datum B and datum C applied to other holes.
DISC PLATE:
This part helps to disc plate to fix the shaft with the body of the butterfly valve. It open and close the valve help of shaft from coming out of the body and keeps it in position for the proper functioning of the disc inside the body. The creation of the retainer plate involves only a simple feature like extrude in CATIA V5 and apply GD&T.
LEVER HANDLE:
This part of lever handle to fix the shaft with the body of the butterfly valve. It open and close the valve help of shaft from coming out of the body and keeps it in position for the proper functioning of the disc inside the body. The creation of the retainer plate involves only a simple feature like extrude in CATIA V5 and apply GD&T. and important part of butterfly valve is lever handle.
DRAFTING AND GD&T:
The design of the lever handle, the drafting of the lever done for applying the GD&T. A,B,C datums are applied the part 2D drafting.
NUT:
It is the last part that helps to fix the lever in position with the stem. It allows to keep it in position or disassemble whenever required. It is created using simple extrude and revolve features in CATIA V5. To apply GD&T for this nut, the primary datum is defined on the surface which comes in contact with the lever.
NUT DRAFTING AND GD&T:
Datum A is given to the bottom surface of the nut that surface will contact with lever surface. And datum B is given to the hole. Finally, other tolerances are given to the surfaces and features of nut.
ASSEMBLY
After the design, all the models should assemble with appropriate constraints. The assembly is created by first placing the body in position and mating other parts to it with the application of different joints provided in CATIA V5. First the shaft and disc are joined together with the screws in place to create a sub-assembly which is then joined to the body in position. The retainer plate is then mated with the body and screws are used to fix them. After that, the lever is mated to the shaft in a position that is then fixed after the nut is mated with the shaft.
CONCLUSION:
The butterfly valve parts all are created with use of CATIA V5 software. And all parts will assembled with help of CATIA V5 software. And take drafting and apply GD&T with industrial standards.
