HOOD DESIGN
BOJECTIVE:
The aim of this project is to construct a well defined hood assembly by modeling the different parts in CATIA V5 or NX CAD needed in creation of our hood assembly that parts are hood inner nd outer panel, hinge and striker assembly etc...
DESIGN CONSTRACTION IN HOOD DESIGNING:
While designing a hood several design parameters are to consider such as the openign angle of the hood, support system for the hood, pedestrian safety rules, etc...
1) HOOD HEAD ZONE FOR STRIKER LOCKING:
While designing the hood this parameter should be taken into consider because when we open the hood to get access to the engine compartment to perform any operation while the hood is in open condition the minimum hight of the hood should be such that it does not collide or hit to head of the peron who is operating. so, the height of hood in open conditions should be more than the average hight of humans in that region there by no human get hurt.
2) HOOD STAY:
This is the support system for the hood as when we open hood we need to hood keep in open position and this can be done by placing it sometime or by providing support to it.
I) Support Rod
II) Gas Stay
3)MASTIC DATA:
We know that the hood comprises two main parts:
A hood innerpaneland hood outer panel. The hood inner panel is enclosed below the outer panel and there by provides rigidity to the hood. when these parts are assembled to form a hood a small gap remains between these two parts this may lead to noise and vibrations when the vehicle is in running condition which is undesirable to avoid this mastic sealant is filled between this small gap.
4) FORCE DISTRIBUTION:
A good designer should always consider the safety parameters as a top priority. In case hood design, one should design the hood in such a manner of the vehicle gets a frontal crashthen all the forces must be distributed towards the hinge of the hood, as it is important to reduce the impact of the crash by diverting the force towards the hinges and thus safeguared the passengers in the vehicle.
HOOD ASSEMBLY PARTS:
The parts are:
1) Hood outer panel or skin of the hood
2) Hood inner panel
3) Hinge
4) Striker
HOOD OUTER PANLE:
The outer panel skin will given. We need to take referance that skin and create the outer panel with thickness of 0.75mm
HOOD INNER PANEL:
Hood inner panel we need to take reference with hood outer panel. Hood outer panel we need to offset. And inner panel is step by step process and make emboss and emboss cut to safety point.
HINGE:
The Hinge is given We want to create a emboss in hood inner panel and assemble with right place.
STRIKER:
The striker also given We need to assemble in hood inner panel in outward emboss cut.
HEMMING HOOD OUTER PANEL:
The hemming process is very importan to connect with hood inner panel. In CATIA V5 software useing bend tool to hemming process. Its take a given hood outer panel to offset 2.65mm. and that offset sheet cut for hemming process.
FINAL HOOD ASSEMBLE:
The hood assemble is all hood parts will combain togeather.
