AIM: To generate the report on finding the section modulus for the Hood design and improve its strength by optimization.
SECTION MODULUS: It is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of beams or flexural members
If the section modulus increases the moment of resistance increases and its load on body bearing capacity.
Analyzing
Using the formula
S=I/Y
Where
S= section modulus
I = Moment of inertia
Y = Distance between Neutral axis and the extreme end of the hood.
Now, Analyzing from Intersect option we extract the inner hood and outer hood lines which is section of hood
Distance = 877.78mm
Y= 438.89mm
Analysing the Hood Design
We are taking the minimum value of Inertia = 2.3066X 105 mm4
s=2.3066X〖10〗5438.89
S=534.40mm3
Analyzing case 2
The case is analyzed by improving the section. Lifting the Emboss value
Improving the middle portion we get analysis of
Similarly considering the minimum value of Inertia = 2.3171X105 mm4
S=2.3171X〖10〗5438.89
S= 527.79 mm4
These calculation are necessary to know the design actual withstand capability of product. As we increase the section area the moment of inertia and section modulus increases it means capacity of material also increases
