OPTIMISING THE SECTION MODULUS OF THE HOOD
INTRODUCTION:
Moment of Inertia is the ability of the body to resist the change. Moment of Inertia depends on the distance of the mass from the axis of the centroid of the object. To design a structure with higher strength the moment of inertia needs to be higher value as possible. Higher the Moment of inertia of the object higher the strength of the object is. Section modulus of the object is the ratio of the moment of inertia of the object to the distance of the extreme end of the object from the axis of the centroid of the object.
SECTION MODULUS:
Section Modulus(Z)=
Where, I = Moment of Inertia.
y = Distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.
Section Modulus of the Actual Hood Section:
Section Modulus of optimized hood section:
To improve the section modulus of the hood we need to improve the height of the hood cross section to improve the section modulus.
CONCLUSION:
Thus the section modulus of the hood section is improved.
