DESIGN OF MOUNTING POINTS ON A FENDER SURFACE OF CLASS-A
INTRODUCTION:
Fender is a styling part of a car which is placed above the wheels as a car body. Main function of the is the protect the components in the engine room from the environment and the side crash if any. It also acts as a styling part where it improves the aesthetics of the car. It can also have provision for turn indicators, Side mirrors which are based on the designer and the budget of the car.
MOUNTING POINTS ON A CAR:
Fender will be mounted to a car on the points shown below.
i. Bumper Mounting Point:
Bumper is the plastic part protect the engine room from the front side of the car. The ends of the bumper will be mounted on the fender where the provision provided for mounting it.
ii. Drip Area:
Drip Area is the fender mounting point in the engine room of a car. The design is done based on the master section provided. Picture below shows the Master section of a drip area.
iii. Sill mount area:
Sill is the part underneath the doors running between the wheel arches. Sill mount point io the fender is shown below.
iv. A-Pillar:
A-Pillar is the column running between the Engine compartment area to the roof area placed adjacent to the windshield and the front doors.
v. Baffle or fender lining:
Baffle is a plastic part placed between the wheels and engine compartment to prevent the damage caused by the stones, mud and the debris from the road thrown on to the vehicle and engine compartment by the tyres.
CONCLUSION:
Thus the fender’s mounting points were designed based on the master section provided.
