Recommended workflow to create enclosures with odd shapes or angles in NX Cad
Objective:
The main objective of this project is to design the Recommended workflow to create enclosures with odd shapes or angles in NX Cad in sheet metal application.
Introduction
Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel".
Sheet metal is available in flat pieces or coiled strips. The coils are formed by running a continuous sheet of metal through a roll slitter.
Forming Process
Applications
Design Methodology:
Sketch on the selected plane(x, y) |
Create the solid body with help of extrude feature |
Adding the features like Wrap the solid body with sheet metal |
Adding feature like flange and sketch on selected plane, add the feature jog...etc
|
Un-bend the all bended portions. Sketch on the selected plane and add the features such as bead, hole.....etc |
Re-bend the all un-bended portions to original positions |
Creating flat pattern for Drafting and manufacturing process |
Description:
The sheet metal Recommended workflow to create enclosures with odd shapes or angles has been done with the above flow chart process. In the NX Cad using default thickness, bend radius, relief depth & width values are set to 3 mm.
The sketch is drawn by the XY plane and the tab command is used for base part.
2D Sketch:
2D Sketching in Drawings. You can create drawing geometry using 2D sketched geometry only, without reference to existing models or assemblies. ... When you drag a sketch point in a drawing, it snaps or infers to other sketches, drawing views, blocks, and items in the sheet format.
Extrude:
An Extruded Boss/Base feature will allow you to take a 2D sketch and add thickness to it in the third dimension. The Extrude command in the Features toolbar.
Wrap:
The solid body with sheet metal. Builds a sheet metal model that takes its shape from a collection of planar faces.
Flanges:
This command is used to add the flat flange at an angle.
Jog:
Modifies the model by lifting material on one side of a sketch line, adding a flange between two sides.
Un-bend:
This command is used to unbend the sheet metal. The punching & drilling operation can be performed by only flat planes only.
Bead:
This command is used to create a long drawn out impression ,which is impressed to increase the stiffness in the sheet metal part.
Holes:
Holes are made using the hole feature. In the hole feature we can select sketches and type requirement we need it.
Re-bend:
After finish all these operations then we should to re-bend the un-bended parts.
Flat pattern:
This is used to create the flattened sheet and prepare the model of manufacturing process.

Conclusion:
The sheet metal Recommended workflow to create enclosures with odd shapes or angles is successfully completed in NX Cad.
