Challenge

Week 8-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge

AIM : To create a tetramesh for different objects given with the specified quality criteria.

OBJECTIVE:

(i) Use standard tetramesh technique to mesh the components.

(ii) Generate 2-d tria elements mesh on the hub and cover.

(iii) Check the quality of the tetra elements.

CAD IMAGE:

PROCEDURE:

  • Import the "housing.stp" file using the import tool option.
  • Using the geometry menu in the menu bar, use the geometry cleanup tools to ensure a fully enclosed volume. Check the topology and verify if we still have free edges.
  • Click on automesh panel from the 2-d elements page. Select the surfaces and put elements type as trias. We will set the target element length as 5 units.
  • After meshing the surfaces and ensuring that no elements are failing for minimum and maximum length, we can proceed to convert the 2-d tria elements to 3-d tetra elements.

  • Acces the tetramesh from 3-d mesh panel and then click on the tetramesh.
  • Select the elements from the Fixed trias/quads to tetramesh then click on the mesh to generate 3-d mesh.
  • Go to 3-d in Check elements to check any tet collapse value less than 0.15.
  • If it exist then go to tetramesh parameters and make the tet collapse value to 0.15 and do the Tetra remesh in order to get rid of the tet collapse.

RESULT:

(i) Performed tetramesh generation by converting the 2d elements to 3d.

(ii) Acheived a better mesh quality by clearing the 3D quality criteria.

FINAL MODEL IMAGE:

OBJECTIVE:

(i) Generate Quick tetramesh/ Volume tetramesh.

(i) Check mesh quality

CAD IMAGE:

PROCEDURE:

  • Import the "Model 1.igs " file using the import tool option.
  • Peform the geometry cleanup.
  • Then perform the tetramesh in 3-d panel without performing the 2-d mesh.
  • If it doen't happen to go the utility pannel and then perform the tetramesh form there.

  • Go to 3-d in Check elements to check any tet collapse value less than 0.15.
  • If it exist then go to tetramesh parameters and make the tet collapse value to 0.15 and do the Tetra remesh in order to get rid of the tet collapse.

RESULT:

(i) Performed tetramesh generation by Quicktetramesh/Volume tetramesh.

(ii) Acheived a better mesh quality by clearing the 3D quality criteria.
