Use ADVISOR tool and simulate
INTRODUCTION :
ADVISOR tool, developed in November 1994 by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), allows users to simulate and analyze conventional, advanced, light, and heavy vehicles, including hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles. The tool allows users to assess the effect of changes in vehicle components (such as motors, batteries, catalytic converters, climate control systems, and alternative fuels) and other modifications that might affect fuel economy, performance, or emissions
It is a set of models, data, and script text files for use with Matlab and Simulink
The benefit of using ADVISOR
Estimate the fuel economy of vehicles that have not yet been built Learn about how conventional hybrid or electric vehicles use (and lose) energy throughout
their drivetrains
Compare relative tailpipe emissions produced on a number of cycles
Evaluate an energy management strategy for your hybrid vehicle's fuel converter
Optimize the gear ratios in your transmission to minimize fuel use or maximize
performance etc.
How To start ADVISOR Tool
Lounch MATLAB and first set default location folder to the advisor
Now in the command window of MATLAB type "advisor and preses eriter. A new window will open and then set metric for unit and start ADVISOR

Vehicle input window
Simulation Parameter window
Results window.
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
1)AIM : Using EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500kg with all other default conditions,To find whether the vehicle can travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle using ADVISOR TOOL
In this question EV_defaults_in file is asking and the cargo mass load that means the passenger load is 500kg given so we can update step wise
first loading EV_defaults_in from the drop-down menu and changing the parallel_default_in to EV_defaults_in from vehicle input window.
. now changing cargo mass of the vehicle to 500 kg..change in the totsl mass of the vehicle can be seen.
. clicking on the continue button after thst a new window simultaion parameter will pop up.
. In simulation parameter window change drive cycle to CYC_FTP by selcting the drop-down menu
. below that we will see # of the cycles from here we can set our drive cycle
.after pressing the RUN button, thwe simulation will start and it will shown results a new window.
the distance travelled by the vehicle in 1 drive cycle is 17.8km. used almost 40%soc
we can change the value of the drive cycle is 2 then the distance covered by the vehicle is 35.5kms
same as if the value of the drive cycle is changed in to the 3 .the istance covered by the vehicle covers 41.4 kms after that vehicle didnt move because 100% soc is completed,and the warnings also showed in this below run simlation.
by completing the drive cycle 1 we can covered aroung 17.8 kms, the completion of the second drive cycle it covers 35.5 kms.at the end 41.1 kms completed so the distance covered by the vehicle also 100%soc is discharged.
2)AIM: Here also shown the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
In vehicle input window we will change the capacity of the battery form energy storage which will be the 1st
#mod vs nom describes the battery capacity, so we will change the module number of batteries from the first box and we will chages in the voltage and weight of the battery
here we using 25 module no of batteries is connected and 1 drive cycle then the result window shown as
if the module no of batteries changes from 25 -26, if we increase the module as well as battery total voltage is also changed here module increases, then the total voltage also increases,but the drive cycle block changes from 1-2 then the result window will shown as and the vehicle covered by the distance is 35.5 kms
we follows the same procedure, ie the battery modules changes from 26-27. here driving cycle changed from 2-3 then the vehicle covers the distance around 44.8 kms
here we can change the module 27-28 and the driving cycle cant be changed then the distance covered byb the vehicle is 46.3kms
here we observe that the driving cycle -2 the value is constant at the no of module of the batteries is 26,27,28
but in the drive cycle 3 has changed the valuesif the 28 module no batteries driving cycle 3 covers the 46.3 kms
3)AIM : In this case we discuss the Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
In this case PRIUS_jpn_defaults_in file is given, so input vehicle name changed to this and also the gradeability test. so first we can change the vehicle input to PRIUS_jpn_defaults_in then show below.
if we change the vehicle input details, the entire parameter blocks is changed.after that the gradeability test is taken so we can click on continue it will show the simulation parameter window, in that window right side shows the acceleration test and the gradeability test, we can click on options of grade options some parameters are shown.we can change the speed and the time duration at different examples and also we can change the term in enabled/disabled system all systems are enabled.
in the above diagram speed is 25 and the time duration in 10 seconds and we can run the simulation then the gradeability value is 16.5
as well as we solve the values at 25 miles/hour - 16.5% gradeability
30 miles/hour - 14.7% gradeability
35 miles/hour - 13.0% gradeability
if the speed increases then the gradeability value is decreases at the time of 10 seconds
RESULT : If we shown the gradeability values in the PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file, in this case we say that the value of the speed is increases then the gradeability % is decreases . we prove that with different variation of speed with respect to time.
