Hood design-Week 2

HOOD/BONNET:

1. Hood is like a door, which covers the engine compartment at the front ot the vehicle
2. Hood is opened while inspection,refilling liquid,etc
3. Hood ic closed while the vehicle is in rest or in motion

VARIOUS COMPONENTS IN HOOD:

• Inner panel

1. It provide the additional strength to hood outer panel
2. it consist of emboss to increase the hood strength at wherever required
3. It also consist of cut out to reduce the weight

• Outer panel:

1. It provides the better look,shape and structure 

• Hinges

1. It consist of two moving or rotating partand one hinge pin.
2. One part is mounted on engine compartment,another one part is fixed on hood.
3. Both the parts are rolling on the same axis called hinge pin axis.
4. Both the hinge(hinge1,hinge2) axis are concentric.

• Latch and striker assembly

1. It is for locking the hood,it doesn't allow the hood to open automatically without our permission

• Support rod or gas stay
• Reinforcement

1. It means additional material added to improve strength of the place at which more force acting like hinge,hatch amd striker mounting area
2. reinforcement thickness -1.5mm(hinge reinforcement)
3. reinforcement thickness-1.0mm(lock reinforcement)

• Mastic seal

IMPORTANT CRITERIA WHILE DESIGNING HOOD:

• lower noise,vibration,Hardness
• Head striking zone
• Opening and closing of hood angle

LATCH AND CIRCLE TRAJETRY:

          It is the radius of curvature throuigh which the latch centre along with the hood rotates
