AIM: To create a simple bracket by using given dimension’s then mesh the given component and then extract the CAD surface from the given FE model using hypermesh.
OBJECTIVE:
1. To create a 3D CAD model of Simple bracket by using 2D drawing.
2. To discretize the 3D CAD model using given target element size.
3. To extract the CAD surface from the given FE model.
PROCEDURE:
1. To create a 3D CAD model of Simple bracket by using 2D drawing
2D drawing with dimensions:
As shown in picture below, we have a 2D drawing with all dimensions of a simple bracket for which we have to create a 3D CAD model. As we can see, right view of model has shown in first quadrant, in second quadrant we have front view. In third quadrant we have bottom view and in 4th quadrant we have isometric view. In right view we have to assume the radius of the hole to be 5 units.
1.1 From Tool bar first we have to change the required orientation i.e. Right.
1.2 Now we have to use node panel to create nodes at equal distance of 100mm. By using XYZ subpanel to create nodes by specifying (x, y, z) coordinates. [Command: Geom---->nodes]
1.3 Now we have to change the orientation of model to Front view.
1.4 By using translate panel, we will move required duplicate nodes to a single specified direction i.e. in –Y direction with a magnitude of 100mm. [Command: Tool---->translate---->nodes].
1.5 Now we have to create a node for circle of radius 5mm in right view. [Command: Geom---->lines Circle center and radius].
1.6 Then we have to create nodes for making a triangular rib of height and length 40mm. After creating all nodes model will look like as shown in picture below.
1.7 Now by using line panel we have to create linear lines between generated nodes using linear nodes subpanel as shown in picture below. [Command: Geom---->lines---->Linear Nodes]
1.8 Now we have to select bottom view and have to make edge blend on two corners of radius 15mm. [Command: Geom---->lines---->Fillet].
1.9 Now we have to select right view and have to make edge blend on four corners of radius 10mm as shown in picture below. [Command: Geom---->lines---->Fillet].
1.10 Now by using spline panel we have to create a surface by using surface only in subpanel with the help of lines. [Command: 2D---->spline]. Once required surfaces are generated it will look like as shown in picture below.
1.11 Then we have to trim the surface of circle. [Command: Geom---->surface edit---->trim with lines].
1.12 Now we have to delete the unnecessary trimmed surface as shown in picture below. [Command: Delete---->surface---->selected trimmed surface---->delete entity].
1.13 Now we have to create a surface fillet of radius 5mm as shown in picture below. [Command: Geom---->surfaces---->Fillet]
1.14 Now we have to delete the unnecessary extended portion of rib by self-intersecting surface as shown in picture below. [Command: Geom---->surface edit---->trim with surface].

2. To discretize the 3D CAD model using given target element size
To open the step file. Select import geometry. Then select the file type to STEP. Then import the required step file i.e. Rear_truss_mesh as shown below.
Now we have to proceed for auto cleanup, by following [Command: Geom---->autocleanup].
Then we have to use parameter editor and criteria editor to change parameters i.e. target element size of 5mm.
Now we have to proceed for automesh, by following [Command: 2D---->automesh].
Then select surfaces to displayed and set element size to 5mm and then execute the mesh.
3. To extract the CAD surface from the given FE model.
Import the given meshed model for which we have to create the CAD surface. To import the model, we have to select import solved deck. Now required file is opened i.e. side_body_mesh as shown below.
To extract CAD surface from FE model. we have to follow [Command: Geom---->surfaces---->From FE].
Now select all display surfaces with surface complexity of 5. We will select auto detect feature which will automatically determine features. Then click on create. Now CAD surface is generated as shown below.
CONCLUSION:
We have successfully created a simple bracket by using given dimension’s and then we have successfully mesh the given component with given quality criteria and then we have extracted the CAD surface from the given Finite Element model using hypermesh.
