DESIGN OF AN ODD ENCLOSURE WITH SHEET METAL using NX-CAD
Introduction
NX sheet metal design software incorporates material and process information in sheet metal-specific modelling features: bends, flanges, tabs, cutouts, beads, dimples, louvers, corner and edge treatments, patterns and other formable features. We can also quickly convert solid models to sheet metal components, and create sheet metal parts that enclose other components.
With NX sheet metal CAD tools, we can apply standard values, such as material thicknesses and bend radii, based on industry or company best practices. With folding and unfolding capabilities, we can work with models at any stage of the fabrication process. NX sheet metal software creates accurate flat patterns for documentation and manufacturing.
Design Methodology/Approach
Description
1. Create the sketch for the solid body in the ZX plane
2. Extrude the sketch to create the body
Extrude: Creates a feature by extruding a section along a vector
3. Convert the solid to sheet metal
Sheet Metal from Solid: Builds a sheet metal model that takes its shape from a collection of planar faces.
4. Create flange at the edge
Flange: Adds a flat flange at an angel to a planar face and adds a bend between the two.
5. Add a Jog Line
Jog: Modifies the model by lifting material on one side of sketch line, adding a flange between the two sides.
6. Create the Bead
Bead: Lifts material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.
7. Create the Holes
Hole: Adds a hole to one or more solid bodies in a part or assembly with options of counterbored, countersunk and threaded
8. Rebend the body
Rebend: Restores an unbend feature to its previous bent state, along with any features added after the unbend feature.
9. Create the Flat Pattern
Flat Pattern: Creates a flat pattern feature from the formed sheet metal part.

Conclusion
Thus, the Odd shaped Enclosure was created from the solid body and the required features were added to it.
