CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
NX is one of the world’s most advanced and tightly integrated CAD/CAM/CAE product development solutions. Spanning the entire range of product development, NX delivers immense value to enterprises of all sizes. It simplifies complex product designs, thus speeding up the process of introducing products to the market.
NX formerly known as "UNIGRAPHICS" is an advanced high end CAD/CAM/CAE, which has been owned since 2007 by Siemens PLM Software. It is used among other tasks for Design, Engineering analysis, Manufacturing.

FEATURES
The tab is the very first feature in any sheet metal design process. All the other feature of the sheet metal in Siemens NX are based on the base feature or tab. A tab is created after sketch is created in any of the plane. The tab is always the parent feature for other feature following it.

The flange is an additional face created automatically from any edge of the existing sheet metal component. It is additional material connected to any face or edge which is bent from the respective face or edge.

This is to create a closed corner on the gap or unfilled portion of the body.

Hem is to modify the surface by folding edges of sheet in order to improve the characteristics.

This feature is to form the other hand of a left hand or right hand part. When you mirror a body, the mirror feature is associative to the original body. After mirroring use unite feature to unite both the feature of the box.

Dimple in the sheet metal component provides more strength and rigidity to the flat structure of the component. Dimple features is created using the sketch created in any face or any flange in the sheet metal components.

The sketch is the fundamental base element for any feature in the design of any sheet metal component. The very first step is to create sketch which is then used to create tab or the base feature.

Unbend is the very powerful and useful tool in the Siemens NX. It allows all the bend made by various feature to the unbend state at once.

All feature added after the unbend feature are added in the unbend state itself. After the addition of sketches and additional features are completed, the sheet metal components has to be re bend to the required position.

Beads are the features added in the sheet metal components in order to increase the stiffness of the component. Beads require a sketch in order to apply the feature. It can be either open or closed profile.

Break corner feature breaks the sharp edge in the corner and make it round or adds chamfer. It prevents the fracture breaking of the sharp corners.

Datum plane is used to create a new plane at the specific point.

it is used to create a cut portion or a gap on the required sketch.
