Challenge 6
Introduction: This challenge involves creating material properties, defining loads, boundary conditions and applying constraints to the tension fitting geometry developed in the previous challenge.
Objective: The primary objective of the class 6 Challenge is to demonstrate the ability to set up material properties, apply loads and boundary conditions, and constrain the tension fitting geometry appropriately for the Finite Element Analysis.
Procedure: The Procedure for completing the class 6 Challenge can be summarized as follows:
1. Create material Properties:
Define the material properties for the tension fitting Geometry.
Specify the material as aluminum alloy as given in the document(E = 10*10^6 psi and poissons ratio=0.33)
2. Apply the bolt load:
Identify the main hole on the tension fitting Geometry.
Create an RBE 2(spider element)at the location there take the center of the hole and create a node. In RBE 2 element select the node that is center of the hole as independent node and all the nodes on the edge of the circle as dependent nodes.
For applying the load , first create a cylindrical coordinate system at the center of the node. Once the creation of the cylindrical coordinate system is done then apply a load of 2500lbf(11000 N ) with respect to the new coordinate system for appropriate application of the load.
3. Apply boundary conditions(Constraints):
identify the bottom three holes on the tension fitting geometry.
Create RBE 2 (Spider ) elements at these hole locations same way as mentioned above.
Apply SPC123 (Ux=Uy=Uz=0) boundary condition at the independent node of the RBE 2 element of the three bottom holes.
4. Review and verify the applied loads and boundary conditions:
Inspect the applied bolt load and constraints to ensure their correct placement and distribution.
Perform any necessary adjustments or refinements to load and boundary condition setting.
Conclusion: I have successfully completed the challenge by following as per the instructions in the document. The material properties for aluminum alloy 7075-T7351 have been defined, and the bolt load and boundary conditions(Constraints) have been applied using RBE 2(Spider) elements and SPC123 constraints respectively.
