AIM:
1) For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle.
2) From the above case, try to change the battery capacity and repeat the cycle.
3) Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file and compare the results.
PROCEDURE:
INTRODUCTION TO ADVISOR:
ADVISOR, NREL’s ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR, is a set of model, data, and script text files for use with Matlab and Simulink. It is designed for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicles. ADVISOR also provides a backbone for the detailed simulation and analysis of user defined drivetrain components, a starting point of verified vehicle data and algorithms from which to take full advantage of the modeling flexibility of Simulink and analytic power of MATLAB.
Benefits of using ADVISOR are:
ADVISOR uses basic physics and measured component performance to model existing or future vehicles. Its real power lies in the prediction of the performance of vehicles that have not yet been built. It answers the question “what if we build a car with certain characteristics?” ADVISOR usually predicts fuel use, tailpipe emissions, acceleration performance, and gradeability.
In general, ADVISOR follow two steps:
- Define a vehicle using measured or estimated component and overall vehicle data.
- Prescribe a speed versus time trace, along with road grade, that the vehicle must follow.
ADVISOR then puts the vehicle through its paces, making sure it meets the cycle to the best of its ability and measuring (or offering the opportunity to measure) just about every torque, speed, voltage, current, and power passed from one component to another.
1) EV_DEFAULTS_IN FILE IF CARGO MASS IS 500 KG WITH ALL OTHER DEFAULT CONDITIONS, CAN VEHICLE ABLE TO TRAVEL FOR 45KM WITH FTP DRIVE CYCLE:
Open the Matlab and import the Advisor and run the program Advisor tool will open select the standards in metric.
Choose Ev_defaults_in load file:
MOTOR CHARACTERISTICS:
VEHICLE CONFIGURATION:
DRIVE CYCLE:
Distance covered in single cycle is 11.99 Km. In order to check the range for 45 Km, the cehicle must run atleast 4 drive cycles.
PLOTS:
1st plot refers speed against time.
2nd plot refers to battery soc has declined to 0 at time 4600 seconds.
3rd plot refers to emissions is at 0
4th plot refers to distance travelled where around 41.5 Km.
2) FROM THE ABOVE CASE TRY TO CHANGE THE BATTERY CAPACITY AND REPEAT THE DRIVE CYCLE:
Battery modules is increased from 25 to 35 for checking purpose.
Increase in number of battery modules will change of increasing in voltgage from 308V to 432V
PLOTS:
1st plot refers to speed against time.
2nd plot refers to battery soc has declined to 0 at time 5500 seconds.
3rd plot refers to emissions is at 0
4th plot refers to distance travelled where around 48 Km.
3) PERFORM THE GRADEABILITY TEST WITH PRIUS_JPN_DEFAULTS_IN FILE:
ENGINE CHARACTERISTICS:
VEHICLE CONFIGURATION:
DRIVE CYCLE:
STUDY-1:
At10 mph for 50 seconds
STUDY-2:
At 20 mph for 50 seconds
STUDY-3:
At 30 mph for 50 seconds
STUDY-4:
At 40 mph for 50 seconds
STUDY-5:
At 50 mph for 50 seconds
As per the different study where gradeability decreases and speed increases.
RESULTS:
1) The vehicle has fail to travel at a particular distance of 45 Km with payload of mass 500 Kg.
2) By increasing the battery module the vehiclem has managed to travel above 45 Km and total distance covered by the vehicle is 48 Km
3) As per the study gradeability decreases speed increases.
