OBJECTIVE :
1. To Generate the Mid-Surface for the Given Component ,
2. Mesh the generated midsurface conforming to the below mentioned Quality Criteria
Target Element Length = 5 units
S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
1 | Aspect Ratio | 5 |
2 | Skewness | 45 |
3 | Warping | 15 |
4 | Taper | 0.5 |
5 | Min. Length | 2 Units |
6 | Max. Length | 8 Units |
7 | Min angle Quad | 45 |
8 | Max angle Quad | 135 |

3. To asssign thickness to the Meshed Component.
Fig 1 Rear Wheel Holder Component
PROCEDURE:
Importing the Model:
1.Importing the geometry :
The given Iges geometry is Imported through the import model option in the standard selection panel.
Fig 2 Importing the Iges Geometry
2.Generating the Mid-Surface:
Since the the component has Uniform thickness throughout, the mid-surface can be generated for the component using the auto-mid surface option from geom tools.
The Extraction option is kept as Offset + planes + sweeps before the Surface is being selected for Auto -mid Surface Extraction.
Fig 3 Extraction option
The Surface for the extraction of the mid -surface is selected
Fig 4 Auto Extraction of the mid -surface
Fig 5 Extracted Mid-Surface
3.Geometric Clean-up of the generated mid-Surface:
The Mid-Surface extracted has several anomalies and hence the Geomeric Clean-up of the extracted mid- surface is carried out to rectify these anomalies.
Fig 6 The Mid-Surface before the Geometric clean Up
Fig 7 The Mid-Surface after the Geometric Clean Up
4.Meshing the generated mid-Surface:
The Meshing of the component is carried out using the Mesh tool from the 2-d tools Option and the Surface which is to be Meshed is selected and the target Element size is kept at 4mm.
Fig 8 Meshing of the Surface
5.Ensuring element Connectivity between elements of the adjacent Surfaces:
The elements between the adjacent surfaces should be connected using the Equivalence option for a tolerance value of 1 mm in the Edge option from the Tools Panel.
Fig 9 Unconnected elements of the adjacent elements before equivalence
Fig 10 Preview Equivalance for a tolerance of 1mm
Fig 11 Equalized Nodes
Those nodes which failed to get equalized for the given tolerance should be connected using the repalce node option to ensure connectivity between the elements.
The element connectivity should be checked by ensuring that there are no free edges between the elements.
6.Elemental Clean-up to Meet the Quality Criteria:
The Criteria file is created in the criteria files settings from the preferences in the menu bar. The Criteria file is created according to the Quality criteria given in the challenge.
Fig 12 Creating the Quality criteria file
The Elements that are failing for the Quality criteria are Cleaned up to ensure that they Conform to the Quality Criteria as prescribed in the challenge.
Fig 13 Failed Elements before the element Clean up
Fig 14 Elements after the Element clean up
7.Assignining the Thickness to the Generated Mid-surface :
The Property is Created in the tab tree & the thickness is assigned is assigned in the property.
Fig 15 Creating the Property in the Tab tree
Fig 16 Assigning thickness in the Property tab
The property that has been created is assigned to the component so that the component is assigned the desired thickness.
Fig 17 Assigning Property to the Mid-Surface Component
RESULT:
Fig 18 Fully meshed Rear Wheel holder component
1. The Mid-Surface for the given door-panel was succesfully generated
2. The Geometric Clean-up of the generated mid-surface was carried out succesfully.
3. The mesh with low-tria Concentration & proper mesh flow was generated successfully
4. All the elements of the mesh were made to conform to the given Quality criteria.
5. The Thickness to the component was assigned successfully.
