Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challlenge

AIM:

The aim of this project is to convert mechanical parts into electrical connectors by applying the electrical properties to the connectors.

STEPS INVOLVED TO APPLY ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES:

  • Create or download 3D CAD model of the connector.
  • Create Geometrical parameters (points and axis systems)

The reference points like Bundle entry point, connection cavity point, connector connection point and axis system for the connection cavity and connector connection point.

  • Define part as connector:

The mechanical parts are defined as connector by using “define connector” in Electrical part design work bench in CATIA and depending on the type of connector it is required to provide the number of terminals and type of connector.

  • Define Bundle connection point.

By using the bundle entry point and mating face it is required to create bundle connection point by taking reference of point, axis and face.

  • Define connector connection point.

By using the connector connection point, axis system and mating face it is required to connector connection point by taking reference of point, axis and face.

  • Define cavity connection point:

It doesn’t need to create for all the components. It is optional point necessary to create for a clip and its mounting device. By using the cavity connection connection point, axis system and mating face it is required to cavity connection point by taking reference of point, axis and face.
